              October 24, 2023 Chip & seal not happy with results for money paid. Weeds growing through chip & seal sloppy job gravel thrown in yard. Feel it isn’t thick enough application of chip and seal. Felt pressure to go through with deal.

              First stated in the contract we do not warranty against vegetation Driveway has a one year warranty against potholes

              We are happy to fix any warranty issues in the Spring 

              Chip Seal will have loose rock and sometimes small amounts of excess rock will go to the edge of the driveway

              This letter is to register a complaint against Chip Seal Paving. They did a sealcoating process on my driveway 9-11-23. All appeared to be good until after a light rain halfway through the next day. Once dry it became apparent that large portions of the drive did not appear to have a coating at all while larger areas were covered with a white sandy grit. I called the number on the sign and was told that because my drive was old and not treated for a few years it should have had two coats. The drive is old but not in bad shape. It looks lots worse now than before treated. And, the bad spots are here and there. If I were good enough on the computer, I would include pictures. I asked the man on the phone to come see for himself. “That would cost him too much money and he would put on another coat for another $200.00.” He called that a bargain. Another neighbor had their drive treated as well and are suffering the same problem on a lesser degree and their drive had been treated last year by another company. I count this as a lesson learned as I used these people when they showed up at the door. Their estimate was lower than the one I had been given. Another lesson learned! However, I prefer that people like this are stopped before taking someone else for a fool.

              We seal coated the driveway it is only a treatment service unfortunately we can’t make old driveways look new we are very sorry you are unsatisfied with the seal coat
              We will credit the coast of the seal coating toward a new driveway next year if so desired

              I contacted chip seal paving after receiving a flyer in my mail box in July 2022. I asked for a quote on covering my driveway with chip seal and extending the driveway out 4’. The owner ****** told me over the phone a quote of 1k deposit to hold my place and an additional $3500 upon completion. I gave him my debit card number and put a deposit down that day. The quote i was emailed said to widen the driveway 3’-4’. I was assured it would be widened 4’. They tried to call me during lunch one day and say they would be be arriving in an hour to start the job. I told them that wouldn’t work because i had a vehicle in the drive and i was at work so i would need more notice. They finally give me enough notice and come out two weeks after that to complete the drive. I can see on my ring camera that they didn’t roll the gravel into the tar to secure it and they dumped the sod and dirt from the extension that was only three feet in a pile on my front lawn. Once i get home i notice how uneven the edges are that they cut out for the extension. I contact the owner multiple times and it ends with him refusing to fix anything, cussing and screaming at me and then hanging up the phone. I’ve gotten quotes from other contractor that said he would charge $500 to remove the sod from the front yard alone. I told ****** i would be happy to pay him $1500 on top of the $1k he already received for the work he did. He refused and threatened to put a lein on my home if i don’t pay him the full amount. And still he refuses to fix the issues. The issues i see are the drive needs to be widened 1’ and straighten the edge. Also there needs to be a roller come out to compact the loose gravel sitting on top and remove the pile of dirt in my front lawn. Apparently this is not the first time he’s done this to a woman. I found a review that had the same complaints as me.

              We put a guideline 3 to 4 feet in the contract and we followed what the contract said we tried to go back and satisfy her and she refused to pay for her job and she still has not paid

              This company (Chip Seal Inc) sent me a flyer (by USPS) that advertised a “maintenance-free” driveway application called chip and seal. I paid the company $11,000 to provide this service and the work was done on in October of 2021. There are two issues: 1. During application, the company damaged several gutter downspouts and the building underneath. The workers on site and present that day acknowledged the damage and indicated they would return to fix those damages. That has not happened. My youngest daughter emailed the company photos shortly thereafter and there was no response. While on the phone with the company - this representative claimed to not be responsible for the damage (but did make mention of the email that he never responded to). 2. In the spring of 2022, widespread vegetation has grown *through* the chipseal application. On 6/21/2022 - my oldest daughter contacted the company and was told they were not responsible nor would their product retard vegetation growth. When asked how that represented a “maintenance-free” driveway, no answer was given. When pressed further, the company representative was rude, dismissive, and belligerent - eventually, he simply hung up on my daughter. Five minutes later, he called back asking for “Mr. ******” - despite never having spoken with my husband regarding this product. When told that “Mr. ******” wasn’t available he asked for Mrs. ******. I spoke with him and he eventually said he’d be out “in a week or two”. The next day, he showed up at my home in a pickup truck with the markings of his company. He repeated that he wasn’t responsible for any of this but he would spray “weed killer”. He claimed this was the same material that his company put down to clear vegetation prior to applying the driveway materials. It has been a week since this application and no reduction in growth can be observed. This is not a maintenance-free application and I request intervention by the BBB.

              I am rejecting this response because:

              1)This business has already sprayed weed killer a week ago with zero impact. That is not a long term solution and does NOT address the false advertising of a "maintenance -free" product. 

              2) The owner of this business called me and said "I shouldn't have called the BBB" ; and I am being advised (separately, by family) that I should make a complaint to the sheriff's department as his tone continues to be belligerent and combative.

              3) The owner refuses to address my questions directly, and refuses to address the physical damage caused by his workers.

              Please be advised that I have made a complaint to the Ohio AG.

              I am rejecting this response because:

              1) The problem has not been resolved.
              2) This response is being received 9-12 months after the last communication from you, the BBB, telling us the business had stopped responding and that there was nothing further you could do.  This is the same way this company handled our complaint with the OH Attorney General; it stopped responding.
              3) The business FALSELY advertises a maintenance-free product.  Currently, we are looking at approximately $300-$750 ANNUALLY to maintain this “maintenance-free” product.  We can provide you with the marketing materials that make this claim.
              4) None of the marketing materials provided by the company illustrate anything like what we experience.  This isn’t a weed or two in a place or two.  It is rampant growth that requires more maintenance than before.  This business should be required to advertise the FULL TRUTH of the product and what vegetation growth actually looks like.
              5) While it is true that the company was back on site three times, the 1st application of weed killer did nothing, the 2nd application only provided a moderately longer period of relief, and the purpose of the 3rd trip was to burn the weeds away, leaving an unsightly mess behind.
              6) The company badly miscalculated the size of the project and the materials needed.  As a result, the width of the driveway is now approximately 36” smaller (18” on either side), and this DIRECTLY contributes to additional growth because we can no longer drive on the impacted area.
              7) The business owner is belligerent, condescending, overbearing, rude, ill-tempered, and is a bully.  We had to resort to not taking his calls because of his abusive nature.
