I went to Ground Takers on Friday, December 2, with my husband and neighbor to buy firewood that we could share but have stacked in our respective yards. Roger, who is a very fast talker, directed us to the pile of white oak and explained that it is a better, long lasting wood. We agreed to purchase of one full cord of this wood. We paid the bill including a delivery charge and stacking. We were told to expect delivery on Monday. He delivered the wood the next day, Saturday, on our driveway which was fine. He had tried to call prior but we missed his call. Fortunately we were home to receive the delivery since he came anyway. While here he looked at the two locations where the wood would be stacked and shared no concerns. He assured my husband that someone would be here Monday to move the wood and then someone else would come to stack it. As promised, a man showed up on Monday and worked very hard to move the wood to the correct locations. He was wonderful. He said that Roger had told him that it was not to be stacked. I showed him the receipt which clearly says "STACK" in Roger's handwriting. The gentleman took a picture of the receipt and planned to go back to the shop to talk with Roger. At about 3 PM I received a call from Roger saying it was not going to be stacked. He stated that we had said we would stack the wood. I told him that my back would not permit me to do that. I disagreed with him as to the understanding and he told me to talk with one of the two gentlemen who were with me at the time of purchase. I gave the phone to my husband and they too had a brief disagreement. After about a minute Roger stated that he was done with this call and hung up on my husband. That was the end of that! Obviously Roger has reneged on his contract and has a very feisty temper. His customer relations are severely lacking as demonstrated by his hanging up on us. There was no attempt at a resolution. Wow this is so not true. First they purchased 3 face cords of our white oak. At 225 a face cord which I discounted for them down to 200 a face cord. In the office they explained this was going to be a split load and they’d like it delivered and stacked. We have 3 different prices for stacking. Level one a easy stack , which is a33% charge of the wood. Defined by no hauling on site after dumping just stack. Level 2: dump wood on site , carry wood up to 30’ and stack is a reasonable area… like deck porch ect. A medium stack is 50% of the cost of the wood. Obviously is take a lot longer and harder therefore a higher cost. Level 3:after wood is dumped on site and it’s over 30 ‘ up to a reasonable range this cost is 100% of the wood. All these stacked are clearly defined on our brochure. While in the office discussing the delivery charge and the stacking charge , they were honest with me saying it was in two different locations , one spot about 70’ up a hill and dump it behind tree. Then to the neighbors about 90 ‘ then dump in Baracue area. So wood needed to be loaded into a wheel barrel hauled to these two areas. This was outside of the 30’ range into a hard stack , in which the customer clearly instructed us we didn’t have to stack simply dump from barrel. With this understanding we agreed to a med stack , saving customer a 50% charge. My wife in office heard this negotiation clearly. These are good people simply trying to take advantage of us. I agree it did say stacking on ticket because that’s what we always write out of habit. So we gave them the medium price discounted from the hard stack .. because she simply said numerous time just dump it in the areas it goes. Therefore we gracefully discounted to med price. I offered to come back and stack but they refused and declined not willing to pay the extra money. We are a very honest and hardworking company with 1000’s of very satisfied customers. We are more than happy to come back and stack … but will will have to charge for the hard stack. We care about our quality of product and service very much. We’ve been in business over 37 years and we are very honorable. We are still willing to come and stack for the additional charge. And I did not hang up on them and let them know like nicely after about 5 appeals that I wasn’t going to come back and stack for free. I’m not sure why they are acting this way … but no hard feelings …Review from Benjamin W.

This company and its owner, Roger, are a giant dumpster fire waiting to roll into your life. Under no circumstances should anybody needing anything ever use Groundtakers. I have a property where a large concrete patio sat over a 2 car garage that was structurally failing. I tore it down with an excavator and needed to bury the concrete chunks and debris and fill the garage cavity. I stopped by groundtakers on a whim after seeing guys on the lot with a dump truck. I asked if they could deliver fill dirt for me. This was a Monday. I was shown the tiny pile they had and said I needed 20 times that amount. Roger told me he’d stop by the next day to look at it. He did that and then spent 30 minutes preaching Jesus at me. We agree to $900 for several loads of fill dirt. I get a call the next morning stating they will have a load that day. Nothing. No big deal. Same thing the following day. No big deal. Now it’s Friday. A small dump truck shows up with what looks like a driveway that has just removed from a clients house. Giant slabs of concrete. I tell the driver no thank you, we need fill dirt. I get a call and text 10 minutes later from Roger asking me “what’s up with the loads”. I respond via text that it wasn’t what I asked for and to cancel the request as this is obviously a circus act at this point. I then get a phone call where Roger, with an attitude says to me, “my guy showed up with the giant concrete you asked for.” I respond with I asked for fill dirt. He then says, “you asked for giant chunks of concrete. I’m not playing this game with you”. I then (baffled respond with), I asked for fill dirt and I’m not playing this either and hung up. I then get texts telling me I asked for concrete (which I absolutely did not) and that all sales are final (even though nothing was delivered as agreed) and that if I try to contact him he will just block me. I then report the matter with the ********* police to make sure that groundtakers acknowledge that they are not to delGroundTakers, Inc. Response

************************. came to our shop looking for some material to fill a hole. ******************** showed him clean **** fill, in which he wasnt interested in. At Mr. ** request, ******************** went to jobsite to look at the hole and suggested the clean fill. Mr. *** said he wanted larger materials to fill the area. ******************** told him we were removing a concrete driveway and that we could deliver broken concrete to his sight to fill the hole. Mr. *** said that would be perfect and gave us a payment for four loads. When our driver arrived the next morning, Mr. *** told him he didn't order or want the concrete fill. Perplexed, Mr. ******* with us and we took the order away. It's obvious Mr. *** simply changed his mind. Mr. *** found some fill for free, mentioning to ****, our driver, just needed someone to pick it up. His review is a completely unjust and a lie. We went out of our way to be a blessing and he simply changed his mind. Our Company policy is All sales are final but his money has been returned. This is what happenedGroundTakers, Inc.Review from Monica M

02/08 Called this company to plow and salt my commercial property and after charging over $400 for salt there wasn't much plowing that took place the property didn't look much different. I paid with my personal credit card and when I called back on 02/23 to ask for an invoice and a paid receipt so that I could be reimbursed by my company, I was told we don't invoice for emergency calls and you can use your credit card statement as proof. I told the man on the phone that a CC receipt doesn't prove that it was for THIS property. He refused to give me a receipt and then was rude stating that every time we work for you, you give us problems. Customer cause you problems by ASKING FOR A RECEIPT?Last year during the bad storm I called for plowing and salting and received the same individual that charged us a ridiculous amount and didn't give a receipt then either. If I had realized I was calling the same company/person this year I wouldn't have called. The work is horrible and the service is WORSE. Avoid this company until you want to be talked to like **** and don't mind never getting receipts/invoices!!GroundTakers, Inc. Response

We were called into ************************* last year for an emergency service, outside of our regular list of Customers that we've serviced for over 20 years. ******************** explained the property on the phone to be about a one acre site, we gave her a price of $750 to plow and salt property. Honestly I forget the event but I think there was 4-6 inches of snow and I've been plowing for over 36 years, and this was one of the hardest sites I've ever done, she neglected to tell me on the phone how arduous this property would be. Railroad tracks in the back lot, gravel lanes with big holes, cars and trucks all over the place. I told her I'd get it done and we did, we ended up doing $600 worth of damage to our plow and received payment and left. Later on I heard she was upset because we did the job too fast. I felt like I rescued her and opened up her property, did $600 damage to the plow and she unthankfully complained that I did it too fast. No thank you for a job well done. This year I received a call from this site, she just wanted front entrance opened, and small area in back. We agreed on plan and price, got her done within the hour. a gentlemen came out asked me to do another long lane and lot in which I agreed, but they didn't want to pay for extra work. Being finished I left . We have many happy customers , unfortunately this is not one. With call in services ,during a bad winter event, we take credit card over the phone serving as the customers receipt. We will not service this property any more, our service is not valued.
