I originally had **** at Ohio Watch Repair service my Benrus watch in 2014. It is a 1955 sales award watch for the Packard-Clipper Division of Studebaker-Packard. The service included a complete movement cleaning, new mainspring, crystal, stem, gasket, and crown, and polishing. The cost was $250. The watch was returned to me and was completely satisfactory. In 2015, the same watch's crown separated from the stem. I contacted **** to have him fix it again. I received an email on 2/26/2015 stating that the watch had been received, and was told that the stem was broken off inside the crown and couldn't be extracted without damaging the crown threads, etc., so it would require a new stem and crown. I was asked if I would be ok with a plain ended high quality Swiss made crown or if I wanted a marked crown. I was assigned Job #****. I replied on 2/26/2015 that a plain crown would be fine. Later that same night **** emailed back to say that it needed a special long neck design crown because it has the neck protrudes into the case instead of a case-tube design. The estimate was to install a new plain end crown, new stem, plus shipping, the cost would be around $40 to $45. He offered to waive the bench time as a courtesy. I responded a few minutes later that it sounded fine, and a few minutes later he emailed and said he would start sourcing the parts. I checked in to ask for updates 4 and then 10 months later, and was told that it was broken worse than first thought and new parts would have to be hand-made. May 2016 inquiry received the same answer. January 2017 email was not answered, but Feb. 2017 I was told that he would answer when he got back into town. In Nov. 2017 he emailed that he'd bought a parts watch. I wrote twice in 2019, but 7/22/19 was the last response - out of town, will respond when he returns. I have since sent 6 emails (last one on 2/27/22) and left a couple of phone messages, but have gotten no response. At this point I just want my watch back.
