I took my son to Casewestern dental school AKA CRWU school on Feb 8, 2024 for a preliminary exam to get invisiline braces. They told me that they had to order them & would call me to schedule in 2 week. They also said they needed payment in full immediatley. I paid in full $3687.00 and never heard from them. I called and called and left messages repeadedly. Finally I was called back by a mgr who appoligized and set up an apt. for May. 2 weeks before the may apt. they called and said they forgot to order the invisiline how about regular metal braces. I said no. They said they had to cancel the apt. and order the invisiline. They woul call me in 2 weeks when it gets delivered to set up new apt. I again never heard from them. More and more calles and messages left I finally got a hold of accounting 2 weeks ago and told them to refund me in full I was going somewhere else. It should not take 8 mos to get braces on. They said they would refund and I have NOT recieved any money back yet. I called and left more messages only to get NO return calls back again. GRRRRRInitial Complaint

I signed up for a coding bootcamp through Case Western Reserve University. I first saw the advertisement on Facebook in October 2022. I signed up because I was interested in changing careers and this was advertised as a course for professionals wishing to get in to the technology field. Right after signing up for information, I was contacted within seconds by someone claiming to be from Case. They were very pushy and claimed that their certificates were in high demand in the industry and that I would get career placement services. They charged me over $12,000 for the course then immediately referred me to a lender. This should have been a red flag. The course itself was generally useless. All of the information in the course could be found online for free. The certificate is meaningless and the career support they offer is nothing more than a resume template and an online job board. I am upset that I fell for a predatory scheme and now i'm facing bankruptcy from this scam program, but it is my fault. What I am writing the BBB about is how Case Western Reserve University is claiming to run the program, but in reality the program is run by a company called EDX and they just pay to use Case Western's name. No staff in the program are actually affiliated with Case Western. Case makes it look in their advertising as if the program and diploma are administered by Case Western Reserve Universtiy, when in reality everything is through a private third party for-profit company. This is misleading and borderline fraud. Case is attaching their name to a fly by night "education" company that also engages in predatory lending practices.Customer response

I have attached screenshots of one of the instructional modules for the course. It is simply a two minute video followed by instructions that are copied and pasted from a website. Case wester reserve University contracts edx to provide the course material. If I would have known that this is the level of instruction provided, I never would have paid over $12000 for the class. Case Western grossly misrepresented the content of the $12000 class. Additionally, I provided a screenshot of their "career services" email. They claimed that after the course, students could work with this company for job placement. For $12000 they simply give a link for a resume building website. Again they misrepresented what was available with the $12000 course. I signed the agreement in full faith that the course would be more than copy and paste instructions with a 120 second video each week. They only allow one week to get a refund which is not fair because students don't get to see the limited content of the course before the drop date. I also attached a screenshot of the loan agreement that was paid to case Western reserve university. Also attached is a screenshot of an email from the university showing what they advertise in the class. This can be compared to the actual content provided in the course. Again, I never would have agreed to this knowing the limited scope of the services provided for over $12000 in cost. It's entrapment and a complete scam.Business response

Chris S******* gave verbal response to BBB staff (**):
The learner signed up for one of our boot camp programs (November Data Analytics boot camp) and attended 18 of the sessions. Then when things came due, he did not submit them and did not continue to attend. We reached out to him by Slack, email and phone and didn’t receive a response. We received no notice of withdrawal nor a refund. And, so this was the first we have heard about him since that time.
