The breeder knowingly sent us a dog with an umbilical hernia. After a week we wanted a refund. ****** agreed to refund the puppy. Gave us a date the puppy would be picked up. Told us he had another buyer. Then the next morning he sent us a text saying he was broke, that he has 5 children & he couldn’t refund, although it’s in his health guarantee. He has also told us at 1 point when we thought of keeping the pup he would pay for the surgery which the puppy still needs.I have all his texts to prove everything I’m saying.

      Dear BBB
I hope this letter finds you well. I understand that you have expressed some concerns regarding your recent experience with our breeding services, and I appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. We take customer feedback seriously and strive to address any issues promptly and fairly.

Upon reviewing the details of your complaint, it appears there might be some miscommunication and misunderstanding regarding the situation. We would like to clarify the circumstances to ensure a clear and accurate representation of the events.

Firstly, we acknowledge that the puppy you received had an umbilical hernia. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. However, it is important to note that umbilical hernias are relatively common in puppies and often resolve themselves without intervention. As such, they are not covered in our health guarantee, as they do not typically affect a dog's ability to lead a pain-free life.

We understand that this change in circumstances may have been disappointing, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. However, it is important to note that ****** did refund you $1000.00, which is well over the cost typically associated with repairing an umbilical hernia. This gesture was made in an effort to address your concerns and provide a resolution.

In an effort to find a resolution, we had also covered the cost of the surgery for the hernia, as a gesture of goodwill. However, we would like to emphasize that this offer was made in consideration of your decision to keep the puppy. As you have chosen to retain the puppy and not send it back, we assumed that the responsibility for any potential medical expenses would be borne by the owner.

Additionally, you later expressed dissatisfaction with the eye color of the puppy and indicated a desire to return the puppy. We informed you that we would be willing to take the puppy back, with the cost of return shipping to be covered by you. However, you refused to send the puppy back.

It is our goal to provide a positive experience for all of our customers, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or frustration you have experienced. We value your satisfaction and would like to discuss the situation further to find a suitable resolution. Please let us know a convenient time for a meeting or call, and we will do our best to address your concerns.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We look forward to the opportunity to rectify the situation and restore your confidence in our breeding services.

      Sincerely,

      ****** *******

RECEIVED VIA EMAIL BY BBB STAFF MEMBER:

Also, I am forwarding a letter from our Vetenarian. The pup was sent with the hernia without our knowledge. The breeder knew & sent the puppy anyway. Its the breeders responsibility to wait & see if the hernia heals,  or they themselves pay for surgery. The hernia is NOT healed to this very day. Very important; Exotic knew we wanted to breed this puppy so we would NEVER keep this dog, hence agreeing on returning. In the letter the Vet states its genetic & it will be passed on to our pups puppies.

As well aa the breeder stating  its  not in his health guarantee, when the Vet states its genetic which is in his health guarantee, as well as not sending a puppy that needs surgery! No honest breeder would send a dog knowingly with a genetic defect let alone any defect. After his refund of some of our $ we asked to return the dog, as it was one lie after another. We lost all faith in him as a breeder, he agreed! He told us in texts he had another buyer, for us to send the dog back & transport would be there within 36 hours. The very next morning he told us he was broke so he couldn't take the dog back. We had just given him $5000, within 2 weeks, what happened to our $????? A breeder should hold that $ back in case there's something wrong with the puppy. Just like in our case.U don't send a dog with a defect, let alone a genetic defect. U don't say u will take the dog back & then tell us ur broke. Not out fault u spent all that money, knowing the pup was sick.

      Dear Better Business Bureau
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding the umbilical hernia in a puppy purchased from us. We appreciate the opportunity to address this matter in a professional and thorough manner.
Upon reviewing our conversations dating back to 2021, we found no indication that client expressed a desire to use the puppy for breeding purposes. We strive to understand our clients' needs and provide suitable puppies accordingly.
It is important to note that an umbilical hernia is not considered a genetic defect and typically does not impact the overall quality of life for a puppy. In most cases, these hernias are minor and resolve on their own without causing discomfort or long-term issues. We want to assure you that we take the health and well-being of our puppies seriously.
To address clients concerns, we have already refunded client an amount of $1000.00, which exceeds the estimated cost of repair for an umbilical hernia. Our intention was to provide financial assistance and support in case any treatment was required.
We would like to offer a further resolution: if you choose to return the puppy to us, we will happily refund the full purchase price. However, we kindly request that you bear the shipping expenses for returning the puppy.
Your satisfaction as our customer is of utmost importance to us, and we genuinely want to find a solution that meets your expectations. Should you wish to discuss this matter further or initiate the return process, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. We value your trust in our breeding practices, and we are committed to ensuring a positive experience for all our clients.
      Best regards,

      ****** *******

Tell us why here...My name is ****** ******* and I am the owner of Exotic Boerboels LLC. We operate a dog breeding business and provide South African Boerboel puppies to people wishing to add them to their families. After 17 years in business, we have achieved a strong following and a high demand for our puppies. Our litters often sell out before they are born. After we complete a breeding we make an announcement on our website of the parents for the next potential litters. For those who would like to be sure that they get puppies, we provide the option to reserve in advance. If no litter arrives your deposit can be refunded or applied to another litter.

Mr. ****** made a reservation for a puppy from either of the 2 posted on our website litters 9-22. I contacted Mr. ****** 9-23 to inform him of the status of the breeding and the expected due dates. Neither of the moms had puppies. Sometime in the later weeks, I informed Mr. ****** of the other pairings that we made and that we had other females that we bred and were waiting to confirm the puppies. On October 24 he made a second deposit to be applied to the total cost of the puppy in anticipation of the next litter Due in November.

On November 14 he made a request that I refund his money. I informed him at that time that I would happily refund his deposit via Paypal the way that it was received in the coming days. He told me he wanted me to send his money via the cash app immediately and he did not want to wait. He also went on to say further that he was getting his lawyer involved because he had suffered damages and would like to be paid $20,000. On Friday 11-18 I refunded both $1000.00 transactions for a total of $2000. After I refunded both deposits Mr. ****** made a request for me to send an additional $1000 refund via PayPal which I declined. Because he had already been refunded his deposits in full.

On Sunday 11-27 Mr. ****** contacted me again and requested another $1000.00 which I declined. I also provided him the attached screenshot to prove his refund had already been sent.

He told me that I need to sleep in a bulletproof vest and I was a dead man walking.

I would like to have done business with Mr ****** but his unreasonable demands for over $20,000 and the threats on my life have made this impossible. I still wish him the best with is new puppy and family.
