I contracted jnl roofing construction to rebuild my pool deck and home deck. Joseph Tennis wrote the contract to start job 7/30/23. The color of trex I wanted was going obsolete and he couldn't get it by that date. So I asked for refund. He kept lying that he ordered some of it n was waiting for money to deposited in his acct. Then he finally said he didn't have money after lying over n over. I kept calling and texting him for my money back and told him I would take him to court. We agreed he would pay me 500 a week thru zelle cash app . Well as of today 10/28/23 he has paid me 3 payments of$ 250.00. I keep calling and texting to ask for payments and no response. Please help me get my money back. I put down a $4000.00 deposit for $10,000 job. I've been nice enough for too long waiting on him to make payments. And keep getting run around or ignored. I wish I would have never contracted this company. I saw all the bad reviews later and was worried i made mistake. I see that I did now. I'm very disappointed and I want the $3250.00 he still owes me. Can u please help me? I don't know what else to do.Initial Complaint

On July 25, 2023, we contracted with Joseph (Joe) T***** of JNL construction to redo our existing wood deck with composite wood. He said he could start the project on August 5, 2023. We agreed to pay $2000.00 as a deposit so that he could purchase supplies, and he promptly collected and cashed our check. In the following weeks, he did not show up to complete the project. His excuses included inclement weather and the failure of the lumbar store to deliver supplies. On August 30, 2023, I called Lowe’s to inquire on his order, but the lumbar department representative was unable to locate an order for our selected color of composite under either JNL construction or Joe T*****. That same day, I asked Joe for a refund, given that he was unable to begin the project. Joe readily promised to return on deposit. Since then, Joe has failed to return our money and has been repeatedly deceptive and evasive, making various excuses. He has promised multiple times “I’ll be over today or tomorrow with the cash” but does not do so. In the past 2 weeks he has stopped returning texts or answering calls. We are requesting that our 2000.00 deposit be returned to us.Initial Complaint

Joe T***** gave me the attached agreement. He started work on it the first week of January 2023. He didn't do what is described here. He installed terribly constructed treated wood railings instead of composite, he wrapped the posts in wood not composite, he stored the debris underneath the decking. He was to add joists underneath to support the instructions that come with TimberTech and it is clear he didn't do that- the boards are bouncing when we walk on them. He damaged my vinyl siding doing the work, said he would replace it, but patched it together and now it's falling off. The installation of the TimberTech boards that I had already purchased, was done carelessly - a terrible job. It looks as if the workers had never used a saw before, with crooked and errant cuts in this expensive material. I have a bigger mess than I started with. Joe said he couldn't have an unhappy customer, and said he would refund my money. He was going to do so in $1,000 increments. Now he doesn't answer his phone and his voice mail is full.Initial Complaint

I hired Joe ****** of JNL Roofing and Construction September 19,2022 to rebuild my covered from porch. The contract was to replace all deck boards, framing boards underneath and add framing boards to bring the porch to code. Also, the contract was to level and slope porch to code, replace support post to porch overhang to code and attach the frame to those post. When complete the whole porch was to be wrapped with white vinyl fascia boards, 4x4 covered in white vinyl sleeves and white vinyl railing put up between the posts. Post to be centered evenly to allow for a centered walkway and steps to center of porch leading to the front door. The contract included all waste removal and cleanup of the jobsite to be complete. The job was started on the following Monday September 26,2022 and was completed on Tuesday. Joe ****** was paid $5000 up front before he stated the job, this was paid September 19, 2022 and the check was cashed and cleared September 20, 2022. The job that he stated he would do was not anything like in the contract. He did not level the porch or reframe. He only replaced deck board over the existing framing and shaved it down to fit the new deck boards. The new deck boards are the lowest quality, filled with cracks, breaks knots and warping. Some deck boards are held in place with only 1 or two screws. The existing frame was covered with new wood deck boards and not rebuilt. No vinyl fascia’s where used. The team stated the job was done. So, the deck is 4 inches lower than the other side, deck is not level or to code, framing underneath was not done and not to code, 4x4 post not set to concrete but tied to existing post in the ground, not to code. Pulled the 4x4 post out of the covered porch roof and left those holes and moved the post back 6 inches. While doing this they broke my front porch support lumber that holds up the front of the roof, did not fix and is not to code. When pulling up my old deck board they lifted them up and bent the front of theInitial Complaint

I hired Joe T***** of JNL Roofing and Construction to completely rip out 2 wooden front porches at my side-by-side duplex, and replace them with the new porches of the same size and specifications. Joe quoted $4,500 for both. He began work on May 22, 2022. Throughout the day he called me multiple times stating that he ran into issues and it would cost more to make sure the issue is resolved and completed correctly. At 8:00 p.m. that evening he let me know that he'd be done in about a half hour and he'd come pick up the remaining balance (that was increased by $1,905 from his quote). A half an hour later, he contacted me and told me that one of my tenants pulled a gun on him and his hired help refused to complete the work. He said he would return the following day to complete the work, but he needed to be paid today. I told him I would call the tenant, and Joe asked me to wait until he was finished with the work to discuss the issue so that the tenant would not retaliate. He picked up the remaining balance that night. He did not appear the following day, and he did not respond to my attempts to contact him. I contacted his insurance provider to see if they could prompt him to complete the work, and he told them that he would. he never did. I spoke with the tenants on both sides and they confirmed that the gun story was made up. Joe had an argument with his help and they quit the job. The quality of the work that was completed, was unbelievably terrible. It was a complete safety hazard. He also lied about all of the additional expenses. He spent maybe $500 on material and didn't even use treated wood as contracted. He left rotting boards from the prior porch in as support beams. He completely damaged the property. I had to tear out the porches myself and build them.Business response
