I took my car for repair. Engine work estimate $800+. That was OK with me. Just keep communication open. he said it would take time. I hadn't heard from him so I called him & he said he got rid of it, he sold it. He never did the work. He said his lot was not a storage unit. He never contacted me. I had purchased a new car & was not in great need of a car just wanted it fixed. So about 6 mons. went by, I called him. He said he thought I didn't want the work done so he sold it to a junk yard. He never asked for any money from the start. I don't know if I can get it back.

      Business response

      12/06/2021

      Good evening,

This is in response to an email I received today about a complaint lodged against my company. Please understand I am pulling completely from memory as the customer never signed and invoice to allow me to work on his car. So there was never an invoice created other than a few notes that have since been discarded. Approximately Last December the car showed up after hours and used the night drop system. Customer called the next day and expressed that he wanted me to find out why the 1997 Civic wouldnt run. I told I would check it out.

I got the car in and figured the car had no compression and determined that the car would need a new\used engine. Assuming the age/miles and overall condition of the car, I advised the customer that putting an engine in the car of this age and condition wasn't the best option. I wondered him to ponder that for a day or so before making up his mind. I didnt hear back for a couple of weeks and *** (the customer) called and wanted an estimate. I told him I would have a written estimate the following day and stop and pick it up and sign a repair order. He never showed up.

6 or 8 months goes bye, I was cleaning up abandoned cars at my shop through the perfectly legal use of an impound company that I asked to post a "tow away zone" sign on the back of my building 12 years ago and is still there. ***'s car was one of the ones impounded. How this works is once the car is impounded, the impound company gets the owners ad***ss through the Ohio BMV and the owner gets a certified letter that states that they have his car and he has a certain amount of time to pay for the tow and storage fees that they incur, not me. Once the car leaves, its out of my hands. It becomes a matter between the owner and impound company.

A few weeks goes by and *** calls me and accuses me of selling his car and he wants it back. I told him the process was to call the impound company and go and pay the tow and they would tow it wherever he wanted. He objected and I did tell him this was not a storage facility and he would need to call the impound company and my hands were clean. I gave *** the company name and number to contact them but I knew he already had the as it was stated on the certified letter as stated above.

I am not sure where the $800 dollar came from but my estimate for the replacement engine was $3300.00 if memory serves me.

I have attached a pic of the back of my building and the Tow away zone sign.

Please let me know how this proceeds as i havent had a complaint in over 20 years.

I f you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
