Ad Review
On May 26, 2010 BBB contacted the company regarding a mail piece containing phrases such as "Economic Stimulus Act of 2009" and "Congressionally Approved" combined with an illustration suggestive of the U.S. Capitol building. We believe the mail piece gives the impression it is from the federal government. Warnings of interfering with mail delivery and phrases like "Final Notice" enhance the false impression. The BBB's Code of Advertising, Basic Principal number three says: "an advertisement as a whole may be misleading although every sentence separately considered is literally true. Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements but by omitting or obscuring a material fact". With respect to Layout and Illustrations, our Code also says "they should be such as to minimize the possibility of misunderstanding by the reader" The firm indicated they would ask their attorney to respond. To date, we have received nothing further from the company or its' attorney.
