While installing framing in attic an employee of this company damaged wiring. The wiring was brand new. The company owner states he talked with site manager and employee and that it was existing damage. This is not true and the employee stated to the electricians who came to repair damage while employee came back to finish job correctly, that he did damage the wire. The company suggested that I wrap electrical tape around the damage. Company refuses to pay for the damage to the wiring. The wiring was pulled when the installer tried to frame attic. The installer pulled wire over a stud instead of going under the stud. You would not have been able to attach drywall with the way that the stud was attached. The installer had to remove stud and redo after electricians fixed wiring.

      Business response

      02/24/2022

The issue of the damaged wiring was first brought to our attention about 3-4 weeks after we had completed work at the claimant's residence. When this was brought to us, we immediately asked the employees and site manager that had attended the home about the wiring. All (3) individuals were able to relay that the damage in question was minor scuffing to the outer sheathing of the wires rather than damage to the wiring itself, which was located in an area away from where our work was performed. After receiving this information, we deemed that it was not our responsibility to fix the claimed damage to the wiring. (3) weeks after the claim was initially brought to us, on 2/21/2022, the claimant called and demanded that we pay for the electrical work that she had ordered of her own volition. We politely declined to pay for this work as we were not the cause for the scuffing to the outer sheathing to the wires. As a standard, we hold a year warranty on labor for the work we perform. Seeing as this was not damage caused by our company and the issue was first mentioned almost a month after our employees vacated the space, we believe that we are not to be held liable for this extra electrical work that was done.

      Customer response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The site manager and the worker were both notified of the damage when they came back the second day to finish the job. The installer and site manager tried to ignore and told me to tape it. the installer was present when the electricians came to fix wire when the electrician explained that you cannot just tape the damage as it would be a failure later and harder to get to once drywall was installed. I was told by the site manager that they would get back to me. When a period of time had passed, I then spoke to the owner who said "let me talk to the site manager and installer, this is the first time I am hearing about it" and then he never called me back. It wasn't until I called later that he refused to pay for the repair. So, as you can see, they are lying about the notification timeline and the installer admitting to the electricians that he damaged it.
