I moved out of unit #*** and turned in my keys on 12/30/21. I spent upwards of 40 hours cleaning the unit before leaving. Management claims my unit was "filthy" and proceeded to charge me for "professional cleaning" of the unit. They are charging me for things that are either non existent or excessive. Example: charging me for drapery rods. There were no drapery rods when I moved in on 08/31/2018, my mother bought them. They are charging me for a toilet seat that was never broken. They are charging me to replace the entire carpet in the unit when it's not even necessary. They are charging me for missing kitchen light panels that I'd previously asked maintenance to replace way before I even gave my 60 day notice to move. They are charging me to rekey the locks even though I turned in my keys and there were no damage to any locks. They are trying to keep my $660 deposit AND charge me roughly $1,600 additional dollars!Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/02/22) */ As the management company for the property in question, it is our job to insure that all units are in the same "Ready for Move In" condition; as dictated by our standards. Rest assured this this unit was not even close to our standards as move out. I will address the individual items refuted by the former tenant. The toilet seat has been cleaned so many times by harsh chemicals that the finish was completely scrubbed off (and unusable by new tenant). The carpet had to be replaced due to damage from two (2) Large (Illegal) dogs and a Cat (Illegal). We require "Pet Addendums" and a Pet Damage "Deposit" for ail pets. We had neither for these 3 pets. The light panels were broken by the tenant when she was cleaning. She admitted this to our maintenance man. She would have had to pay for them regardless. She removed our Top of the line "Schlage" Lock sets and replaced them with decorative "Antique Bronze" Quickset locks. The tenant also replaced out the doorbell and thermostat with her own equipment (without our permission). We require a "Move-ln Checklist" within 7 days of move-in to note any defects. As the tenant failed to turn this checklist in, she "waives the right to claim defects" per paragraph #2 of the "Rules and Regulations" section of her lease. We are attaching a copy of the Security Deposit sheet (As mailed to tenant) along with a copy of our recent correspondence addressing her disputed charges. It appears she complained to the BBB before we even had a chance to respond to her. We hope this clears up the issues as complained by the tenant; and that our A+ standing with the BBB is not tarnished by this tenant with unfounded complaints. Sincerely, ***** *. ****** Comptroller See Attached Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/03/01) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I paid everything I was supposed to pay. I also never changed the locks. More to the fact, I asked maintenance to replace the kitchen panels before I even gave my notice that I was moving. This is nothing more than a "shakedown" for money. Its not the tenant's responsibility to pave it in "move in" condition. You are charging me outrageous amounts for normal wear and tear in order to pay for the next tenant to have a nicer unit and I refuse to.
