I entered into a contract with Atlas Restoration after being referred to them by my insurance provider after a water backup in our home required remediation work to be done. I don't have a ton of complaints about the work they did, the problem mostly came when the final bill was due. We were cost conscious in selection of materials and I also even did some work myself to help reduce our bill, but when the bill came due they said it all "evened out" and didn't want to adjust the bill. I insisted they did so however and pointed out lots of things that were inaccurate in pricing and/or included work they didn't do, and we negotiated the bill down about $600. We came to a point in negotiating however where they got very defensive about the price they charged for certain work/materials when I questioned their accuracy (given that it was very different from the list price at the store they purchased it at) and they demanded to be paid at that point, flat out refused my request for receipts of the purchase of materials (and actually attacked me for requesting them) and then threatened to increase the bill with work that they now claim they left out. They have been very hostile and threatening over email and in phone conversations as well. I'm now waiting on them to send their "final bill."

I was getting estimates for a new roof when I called Atlas, which had done a shower enclosure at my home. I asked their estimator questions like anyone should when investing thousands of dollars. He came to my house when I was away and left a written estimate, which indicated one layer of existing shingles. After awhile I called the same estimator again. He answered saying he was eating lunch and would call me back, which he never did. I proceeded to contact other roofing companies, all of which were very communicative by phone and in person. They showed me samples of shingles and were very informative. One thing they informed me of was that there were actually two layers of old shingles on the roof, which is what I thought, based on my knowledge of the history of the house. The labor needed to remove an added layer made the Atlas estimate inaccurate and worthless. I called the estimator from Atlas again and asked him the number of existing layers. He said, “One, I think,” Then I asked if I could see some samples of shingles. I had a particular color in mind, and choices were unusually limited. He then said he was busy, and does business like this: I would first have to sign a contract for a new roof, then he would show me samples of shingles. I reminded him that the last time I called, he said I was interrupting his lunch, and despite his lie to the contrary, he never called back. At that point, he hung up on me. This was by light years the sleaziest encounter I had with anyone I contacted regarding a new roof. What kind of idiot conducts himself this way? The kind who doesn’t even know, after looking at a roof, how many layers of shingles it has. I now, of course, am an ex-customer of Atlas. This happened a while ago, and I haven’t encountered such an extreme example of bad business since. It is never too late to let others know what the norm is not when they are making one of the biggest investments of their life. I am busy too.
