I hired a roofer named ****** ***** owner of ******* ******** a slate roofing company, to replace my roof. Mr. **** insisted that we do business with this company and buy the underlayment from them. Corken Steel does not typically take credit cards, so they asked me to furnish a photo of my checking account, which sounded very odd and scammy to me, but I looked up Plastiq.com, the company they were asking to be the payment middleman for my credit card, and sites like Credit Karma and Wallet Hub deemed them a legitimate site. Mr. **** spent $1500 of monies I gave him to Corken Steel, purchased, 8 rolls of steel underlayment, and then abandoned the project. I immediately spoke with **** at Corken Steel and he told me not to worry, the company would take back the rolls of steel and refund me. This was a relief because Mr. **** also hacked my computer and extorted approximately $10,000 more out of me removing shingles from my roof and, to this day, never replacing them. When I finally made the 90 minute one way drive to Corken, I made sure to call again and check to see that I could return the steel and was again assured that I would be able to. Upon arrival, I was told that the steel was "scratched" and was not returnable. This steel was never unrolled or used. It sat in my living room untouched until I put it in my car. I would like my money refunded as promised multiple times.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/06) */ When the customer initially contacted me for a return on the material, I informed her we would be able to take it back as long as the material was not damaged and was still in a sellable condition. A stipulation that was made clear on multiple phone calls. The material that was purchased through us was a metal coil which has a paintable coating on the outside. When the items were returned, our warehouse staff unloaded them and then called me back to inspect them because they noticed scratches and spots where the coating had rubbed off. I inspected each roll that was brought back and on every roll there were areas that were scratched and areas where the paintable coating had rubbed off. The gentleman who returned them informed me they had been rolling around in the customers car for over a week, a point I brought up with the customer when she called to ask why they wouldn't be returned. With the metal rolls rubbing against each other, the coating had faded in certain spots and had caused scratching in others. Due to this, I was not able to issue a refund because I would not be able to resell the items. To the other expenses incurred by her in dealing with ****** ****/******* *******, I have no knowledge and cannot speak on. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Corken required me to use an online payment application called "Plastiq" with my credit card. Plastiq required me to take a photograph of my online banking info and submit it to Corken. I expressed concerns about the security of doing business in this way to both ****** ****, Plastiq, and Corken. I was told my payment would be secure and that satisfaction was guaranteed by using this payment method. Clearly, neither Mr. ****, Plastiq, nor Corken we're being truthful. The "scratched" metal (8 rolls paid for) shows "shipped" and Mr. **** only presented me with 6 rolls. Any damage must have occurred during "shipping" as the rolls were secured in my vehicle and had no way to roll around. Where are the missing rolls? How do we know that these alleged scratches did not occur during shipping? And why does the receipt from Colten also show paid in "Cash". I gave Mr. **** cash for supplies as well. Did Corken take my cash AND credit card payments, short me on supplies, and promise a refund after double charging me? My credit card had fraudulent charges on it after using this "Plastiq" payment provider. I would like to see Corken's documentation. Please direct me as to where I can upload my documentation that includes a promise of refund.
