Jowell ***** D****** is the owner. He is a very smooth talker. I was looking to have a three season room added to my house. The amount of complaints I have against this company are laughable. Do I start with the 5 gallon bucket that his workers used as a restroom or do I start with the fact that he failed seven city inspections? Yes 7! I only signed off after the building Department of Westlake, including. Mr g***** who oversaw the development of Crocker Park, came to my residence personally. He did not follow any building codes. The structure was on sound, and the roof leaked. He also did not follow the blueprints from my certified architect. We ended up with an extra piece of wall in our great room.. I paid him $16,000. I refused to pay the last 5000 as the work was never completed. Fast forward a few years I got divorced and it turns out he put a lien on my house in my ex-wife’s name. Of course he added about $1000 for late charges. To this day, the work was never completed. His craftsmanship was so bad. We paid another company to re-roof what he had done. I have pictures and videos to show that he left gaping holes in our roof. I also have all documentation to back up these claims. The amount of stress he put on my marriage with a new baby, was incredible. My ex-wife handled most of the communication with him, and I’m sorry she had to go through that. I should have been tipped off early when he would not even put the concrete pad in his own company’s name. He subcontracted a gentleman named ****** ******* whose name was on the official work apparently in Ohio it’s very easy to place a lien on someone’s property. All you need is $250 for a business license. I would have filed something earlier, but I did not want it to affect my divorce. He is a scammer, and as far as I’m concerned, he owes me $22,000. I ended up, reframing all of his work and paid another company to re-roof. There is way more, but I don’t have enough room to write it.Business response

Everything passed city inspections this was five years ago. If the city did not pass they would have fined me.Initial Complaint

JSD fixed a leaking faucet (9/16, $325) and repaired decking (began work 10/10/22) for us. We paid $250 9/15 for an initial visit (to be credited when work done), made a down payment of $2000 on 10/10/22 for decking, and made a final payment of $1056 on 10/11/22. Upon our request, owner Jowel S**** ******* sent us a corrected bill 11/14/22 - which I have attached. On this bill he charged us again for the plumbing (this time $275). Also on this bill he did not take off the initial visit $250 as promised. He also made a mathematical error $100 in his favor. His errors made the sales tax over by $17.88 - and the 4% credit card charge (of which we were not informed of in advance) over by $21.72. Hence our JSD charges should have totaled $2730.52 - as opposed to what our credit card was charged - $3306 - meaning we are owed $575.48. Mr. S**** ******* admitted error only in the amount of $186. He said he would refund that to us on 11/14/22 which he never did. We are seeking a refund of the money we are owed in the amount of $575.48.Business response

Yes, we did preform work on this house. We did have to do extra work on the plumbing thats why it cost more money. I believe the office gace him the credit of 186.00 that is owed. I will look into that today.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]I have attached the receipt for the plumbing work that was done. This was the only plumbing work that was done. I was at the house the entire time work was being performed at the house. Pls refer to the receipt that I attached in my original complaint to see that I was charged a second time for the plumbing work that I had paid for on 9/16/22. We never received the $186 refund that Mr. S**** ******* promised to us on 11/14/22. Pls refer to the original complaint to see that we are owed a refund of $575.48 due to as previously stated not taking the $250 initial visit fee off as promised, charging us a second time for the plumbing work, his mathematical error in his favor of $100, and hence incorrect sales tax and 4% credit card (again which we were not told of in advance) calculations.

Entered the contract on 8/16/21. Work started Oct 25, 2021. The workmanship is poor. My cabinets have scratches and nicks in them and are missing shelf pegs. My backsplash was not trimmed properly and still needs some grouting. My granite countertops have several cracks that were supposed to be fixed and refinished but I was told yesterday it was too late to do it. I didn't get my floating shelf over my sink and was told it was to late for that because they already installed the backsplash. My flooring was only partially leveled and I was told that was a sub floor for my hardwood floors. The flooring has knicks in some edges. One was somewhat fixed and I was told that I could use super glue to fill in the others because it's just like resin. The floorboard trim has a gap between floor and trim was told it was because floor not level and it could get caulking. They did damage to my refrigerator by moving it and not covering it and when I brought this up to the owner he told me he wasn't going to do anything about or take money off the bill. The painting and drywall are still not completely fixed but I was told they weren't going to do anymore. Trim work was poorly done. Asked several times for an itemized bill. He refuses to give me one. He said he has what I have. I would like to know what he budgeted for things and what I paid for. Cost of flooring, granite, backsplash, etc. Was going to have a wall put up around refrigerator and decided not to. He told my husband he would take 250 dollars off and then told me he wouldn't. Had a table made and I can't use it because it isn't stable enough to hold the granite that was put on top. The leg already cracked from moving it. The guy attempted to fix it yesterday but it was not done as was discussed prior. Bench has knicks in the wood so it catches on your clothes and damages them. No dishwasher was installed. Have scratches in sink before I could even use it. Pd.over 21000.00 alreadyBusiness response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
First of all he ordered cabinets without me seeing them and just assumed I would like them. I told him I didn't want light gray and he had to cancel the order and bring me samples to look at. Floor leveling not complete still off by .25 inches. Shelve never installed, wrong sink installed was supposed to get a 60/40, but they cut the granite wrong. Never received itemized bill for materials and work, even though I asked several times, because I have a right to know what was budgeted and where the money went. Never completed flooring still at some points off, wall 8th of a inch off.No subfloor installed, and then said the leveling was the subfloor, but he didn't level the whole floor. Flooring didn't even go all the way to the wall. Trimming on floor not level. Didn't finish work behind stove, trim, paint, and was told no one will see it. Bench seat requested for kitchen table, they built a crate and painted it cannot use don't know cost. Can't use kitchen table, legs don't safely support the table top. Legs not even level. Leg is cracked and he was told this awhile ago and it was never fixed. He guaranteed us the table was safe, but by far it is not and we are currently looking for a new table which is hard to find since it was custom made. I asked him to sign a waiver for the table safety and he said he would and never did. Cabinets have several scratches and marks and they didn't even have all of the pegs for the shelving, they even used duct tape to hold in one of the pegs. Doorway to the kitchen was cut wrong, and they told us they couldn't do anything about it, claiming our wall was off. Charged us for a wall that we decided not to have added, and he told my husband he would take 250 dollars off and he never did. He said he was following the contract but when I questioned him on things he either told me it was included or he charged me more money. He has stated he installed a dishwasher, and we don't even have one. When I asked him about my floating shelf over the sink, which was discussed prior to starting the job, he said it was included in the price, it was never installed and when I said something to him I was told they are beyond that point. Painting was poorly done and after several painting touch ups, some of which wasn't even fixed, it is poorly done. Was told to write up a punch list, which I did and all the things weren't addressed and I was told in November they were finishing up and he came for the balance. That they spent enough time and went above and beyond for us. My refrigerator was damaged and scratched up because they didn't cover it. I was told he wasn't going to take money off for that. I asked for the papers for my garbage disposal and never received them. Was told there are warranties on the work, granite, flooring, and cabinets, etc. but never received any paperwork for that. Granite has cracks that I showed them and the guy put his finger over it and said do you see it now. Backsplash was not properly trimmed or finished off and was told it was fine. Very poor workmanship. Pictures and video to follow in separate email.
