I still cannot believe how Hockey Time Productions handled a situation while our team is here playing in the South Bend tournament. While playing our third game today, the team we were playing kept using racial slurs against one of our boys. When it was brought to the attention of the director, the other team had to APOLOGIZE to our player. Shameful. Rule 1 in Hockey Time’s rule book says they have a zero tolerance policy for discriminatory language. Seems like complete tolerance to me. No sanctions, no suspensions. When brought to the attention of the official in charge, we were told nothing could be done because it was “hearsay” because the officiants didn’t hear it, but still had the other team apologize. Seems like an acknowledgment of guilt to me. This is completely inexcusable and there should have been accountability. Very disappointed how this incident was handled and I do not recommend Hockey Time Production tournaments for kids of any age when they let this type of behavior slide. This was a 12U team from Michigan (Kalkaska Rhinos) and one of the tournament director's stated to our team that their team apologized and that this was a good learning lesson for that team... this is after they told us "well that team is from way up North." I don’t care where you are from that behavior is unacceptable from anyone!
