I would not recommend doing work with Remark Construction. They told us our project would take 4 weeks to complete, and ended up taking double that. At every delay we were told 2 more days and never given a reason for the delays. During the first week on the job they drove through our yard leaving tire marks and ruts. The reason we were having any remodeling done was because of a burst pipe, I asked the project manager twice, Jon K***** if it was repaired, both times we assured me was. On an off chance I needed to shower at our house one day, took a shower and pipe leaked, soaking the floor and freshly hung dry wall below. Remark placed the blame on me for this, never apologized for it happening. After this was fixed I needed to shower at our home again-when I walked in I asked Jon (the PM) if I could shower that day. He said yes, as I walked up the stairs I hear one of the co-workers ask why I wouldn’t be able to shower. Jon told him he forgot to fix the pipe, he closed up the dry wall and didn’t even touch the pipe…the whole reason they were even there in the first place, and the same pipe he assured me on two different occasions that it was fixed. There were a couple of other instances where I would come over to check on the house and our front door was left unlocked and our garage door was wide open while no one was inside. Again, we weren’t living there at the time so anyone could have come into our home, and who knows how many times this actually happened when we didn’t come over to check on the house. We were charged for a duct cleaning ($850), again I asked Jon if it happened. He assured me it had. I opened a couple of vents and the amount of dry wall dust and debris that I saw told me right away nothing had happened. There were other smaller issues (like dents in our refrigerator and microwave) that occurred, but I think everything detailed above gives you enough information to make an educated decision on whether or not to hire Remark.

    Remark Construction, LLC Response

*******, As we have vocalized to you on May 2 and previously on April 24, we are sorry for your experience with Remark Construction. We do, however, want to make clarifications to your claims about being lied to, your use of the shower, the plumbing, dented appliances, and the cleanings. Remark appreciates feedback, both positive and negative regarding customer experience, but feel to be fair to the review process that both sides of the story must be "heard." On Thursday, Feb 16 Remark owner, Chris K***** and an estimator met you to sign a Construction Agreement that outlined the stipulations for work to begin, meaning that the terms of our agreement were spelled out clearly and agreed to by both parties. A specifically outlined portion of this agreement states that "Client agrees that materials and workmanship during construction is the property of Contractor and any damages to materials or workmanship by Client is the responsibility of Client. Cost incurred by Contractor to remedy damages will be done at a rate of cost plus %18." Your unannounced use of a shower in an active construction site, while you and your family had "moved out of the house" to let us work without disturbing you because of "how much work" there was to be done would be part of the beginnings of several issues with, as you mentioned, the "reason we were there to begin with". There are legitimate concerns that you have expressed that we have made attempts to remedy with you (i.e. lack of duct cleaning after construction) and issues that you brought up during the project (truck driving into your yard on a wet day during the demo process) that are unacceptable and that we have apologized for and that we have addressed with our team, that we are grateful that you have shared with us. However, from the beginning of the project you made clear that you wanted "to be as far away from the project as possible" and that any decisions should be made "by (your) sister." We had multiple conversations with her that were productive where she expressed, again, your desire to not have anything to do with the project. This makes communication extremely difficult for a project like this, especially when feedback was essentially not given until the creation of the final punch list. It needs to be said that the final product is beautiful – please feel free to share photos of the finished product that you agreed looks great. Your issues with the appliances being dented are things that we have expressed that we will take ownership of and help you to take care of through your insurance company that was handling the loss. This is because your previously hired remediation company most likely damaged the fridge as they were ripping granite and cabinets out of your kitchen. Regarding the microwave. We did not damage it. Your sister dropped it off during construction and although the minor damage was not noticed until after it was installed, we agreed to help you fix it, either by returning it to the store you purchased it from or speaking with your insurance company on your behalf. Because of your intentional lack of communication, and the fact that there was a newer Project Manager on your job, we are confident there are legitimate things that fell through the cracks - such as your communication with your project manager, Jon, about the previously mentioned plumbing repairs. No one knowingly lied to you, ever. Your communication with the owner, Chris K*****, was not respectful, as we are sure that when the Project Manager told you that “you can't talk to me like that,” that it wasn’t for no reason. To sum our response up, we do appreciate constructive criticism. We take every experience with customers seriously and as an opportunity to improve. We are sorry for your experience but are thankful that the quality of your project does not align with the severity of your criticism.
