In August 2018, BBB serving Greater Maryland began receiving an influx of complaints alleging that the website Jamessaleonline.com failed to prominently disclose that the books advertised/sold are digital copies (eBooks). BBB contacted the business to share their concerns about the alleged misrepresentation of book formats sold, and requested that the business modify their advertisements to limit confusion. The business failed to respond.
In November 2018, BBB received an influx of complaints filed against GoartShop.com that were notably similar to complaints filed about Jamessaleonline.com. When BBB reviewed GoartShop.com, it was noted that this website also fails to prominently disclose that books sold are digital copies (eBooks). Upon investigation, BBB confirmed that the websites Jamessaleonline.com and GoartShop.com are affiliated.
BBB contacted the business in November 2018 to inform the business of the concerns, and requested that the business modify the advertisements on GoartShop.com to limit confusion. To date, the business has been unresponsive to requests to modify their advertising.
BBB determined that while the business claims to operate from the address 619 E Clement St Baltimore, MD 21230, they are not registered as a business entity with the State of Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation. One consumer informed that an email received from the business had an Ohio address of 2162 Venice Blvd Ross Twp, OH 45014 listed. When BBB researched this address, it was determined that the address is an unaffiliated residential property.
