I called to inquire on a possible garnishment. I was convinced to file for bankruptcy and start with a partial payment on the intake call, a call back from an attorney was scheduled for about a week later. I still wasn't even quite sure I wanted to file at that time. I spoke with the garnishing creditor and we came to an agreement. When I received the call from Amourgis later that week I advised I did not want to file. I advised I would like a refund of the payment and they refused. I felt like I was scammed for my 300 dollars. I never sent any documents to get the process started. I literally had one phone call with intake, in less than a week I advised I didn't want to file. I would like my ****** back from Amourgis.Review from Irene M

If I could leave zero I would. Paid $1,700 to stop wage garnishments & file bankruptcy. They asked me to upload info into pipe file. Then, after I did that.. they would send another pipefile request wanting something that was not included in the first 10 pipefile requests. After they called me and spoke to me, I would get a letter in the mail saying they couldn't reach me. I saw my attorney driving around my neighborhood with some hefty blonde. My attorney never responded to my emails. I spoke to him 1 time and that was the day he set up payment arrangements. They are bottom feeders. I've since established new credit after having my wages docked for four months and paying ****. They have caused me complete emotional turmoil. I reached out to the bar and got oh sorry about your luck kid. They stole my money under the guise of working by having low level staffers make phone calls. It's a total scam. Accepting their services has been one of the most daunting experiences of my life. I hope they get what they deserve.Review from A.

I Paid for a case that was never taken care of horrible company they will never follow up with you unless you call them multiple of times. They will literally lie and say they are working on your case and they are not working on anything besides finding a way to get more funds out of you. They have a poor Representation for a law firm. Please do not do any business with this law firm they will refuse to refund any monies to you and they will request more money from you they do not care about your concerns or case.Amourgis & Associates Attorney and Counselors at Law Response

Hi ******. We are so sorry that the debt settlement process has been frustrating for you. Please note that you hired us to settle a debt that you incurred. After many meetings and phone calls and emails and correspondence to and from the opposing party, we successfully settled the debt for you at an amount that was 50% less than the amount you were willing to pay each month. In all, we spent over $1,200 in time negotiating on your behalf that exceeded the modest $599 retainer fee, for which we do not charge our clients. While it may not have appeared that we worked hard to obtain the result you hired us to obtain, settling your debt at 50% less than the monthly amount you were able to pay is a favorable result. From reviewing your file, it seems that your frustration is that you did not understand that the amount in the Complaint filed against you was more than the amount you believed you owed. You may recall that we explained to you that creditors apply the cost of their fees to secure the debt (and often times interest) on top of the original debt owed, and that amount is one that most creditors are not willing to negotiate. We went above and beyond to obtain a successful result for you succeeded in obtaining a lower monthly payment than you had requested at the onset. We advocated for you, as we strive to do for each of our clients, and are sorry that you were unhappy with what was actually a relatively successful outcome.Customer Response

LIES you never settled anything for 50% you mustve forgot everything gets recorded clearly you told me I had to settle for making a payment for 75.00 a month to pay the full amount you than asked for more money which was 1785 and what 1200.00 you put forth on negotiating my case thats a LIE and it never exceeded the modest amount you forgot I spoke to you guys and I said what did you do on my case and you guys kept saying we are working on it please stop saying we went above and beyond for my case when you did nothing but ask for more money and told me to make a payment of 75.00 a month and you conversing over the phone with the people I owed I couldve did that and I was never frustrated I was asking about my case and you guys gave me the run around and continue to not call me you gave calvin many messages to delay to me and you guys couldnt even keep a phone appointment so please dont get on here and lie and make up excuses for your company to look good. I have been diligent in my responding to request for more information, uploaded everything I had and literally have been waiting for a week for them to approve one document that I sent back within 10 minutes of being notified that it was not approved. Went out of my way to call to make sure my payment processed but seems like that didnt show how much I wanted what I was told to be a quick case to file, done. This is all anxiety inducing and just want it done. Nobody will give me an update and everyone I call for one they are all conveniently too busy so they always say they will take a message for me and someone will get back to me when nobody has. I have spoken to the paralegal assigned to me once and that was for 3 minutes. I just dont appreciate being ran around when the process seemed to be going well until for some reason communication and responding ceased to me. I should have looked up the reviews before i signed on. Seems to be a theme of lack of follow up.Review from Ingeborg T

I was solicited by them in 2017 because foreclosure proceedings were started on my home. I was advised that a chapter 13 was the way to solve the problem. After 3.5 years of payments and $21,000 I converted to chapter 7 because the county hadn't been getting paid. Their reason was the county never responded to the paperwork necessary to get paid. To me, an uninformed person it seems logical that they would have followed the case and made sure that they were paid. I came out of bankruptcy with the house still in foreclosure and had to scramble to pay the arrears before I lost my home.
