On Sunday, March 18th, 2023; we signed attached contract and gave ***** a personal check for $15,000 (attached both sides). The check cleared ******* bank on Tuesday, March 20th, 2023. On March 29th, 2023; ***** texted *** and stated that he had the aluminum rolls in for the gutters yet he was waiting for the order at Menards to come in. *** texted ***** back and asked for a start date. ****** never responded. On April, 5th, 2023; *** texted ***** again asking for a start date. ***** did not respond back until April 6th, 2023 and stated the start date would be April 24th, 2023 On April 18th, 2023; *** texted ***** to confirm above start date. ***** responded “tentatively if not I will be dropping supplies off so we can start immediately. On April 24th, 2023 (8:41am); *** texted ***** asking if he was still dropping off supplies and he responded “It wouldn’t be today but this week”. *** then asked him “Are you planning on starting the roof this week or just dropping off supplies?” ***** responded: “I plan on dropping the supplies and having it staged to start the following week. We’re caught up with jobs the rain got us behind. And I’ll be looking at giving you guys a discount. Sometime between 4/25 – May 16th, 2023; ***** called *** and told her that Menards had screwed up and ordered the wrong color roof. On Tuesday, May 9th, 2023; *** texted ***** asking him what time he was planning on being at our house to START the roof. ***** didn’t respond. On May 17th, 2023; ***** went to the Menards in Sandusky and spoke with ***** ******* (Service Department Manager: ******************** (************). She told ***** that she had no record of ***** ordering a metal roof and that ***** was lying to ***** with his story about Menards screwing up on the color. She then suggested to ***** that he get ahold of the authorities because ***** is playing with ******* money. On May 23rd, 2023; ***** texted *** that he got the roof in that day and that he would be on site the following morning to start the job. ***** did start on May 24th and worked a couple days. On May 26th, 2023; ***** texted *** & *****: “Hi I hope you guys are pleased with the progress so far. I just wanted to let you know we will be there early morning again. We have some stuff to finish up before the gutter guy gets there. Also I know I said I wouldn’t ask for more money until the job was finished. I’m thinking with me there early I won’t be able to get cash for my gutter guy. If I give him a check it’ll cost me more. If possible and willing could you guys pay me $3k in cash and I can get it to him after he’s dfne? If not its okay I figured I’d check. Lastly if it’s okay depending on how everything goes tomorrow we will be there Monday morning too.” ***** did not show up on either day. On May 31st, 2023; *** texted ***** “Please provide an update asap as to when you will be done. This is unacceptable”. ***** ended up calling ***** phone and gave excuse after excuse as to why the roof wasn’t finished. We explained to ***** on this call that we had someone in the construction business come over to inspect what had been done so far and this individual stated that ***** should NOT bein this type of business and that what he discovered was dents, gutter issues and a poor job overall. We told ***** that the gutters were not installed correctly and angled wrong where rain was running right over the top of them along with damage to the corners. Please note that this individual will testify as to what his findings where. Video attached of rain going OVER the gutters vs. in the gutters. On the morning of June 5th, 2023; a sheet of metal roof had blown off our house onto the driveway. ***** was to be onsite on Tuesday, June 6th; 2023 to fix things, finish and go over pictures. ***** never showed up. On June 6th, 2023 at 5:02pm; ***** texted ***: “I know it’s excuse after excuse and not what you want to hear but my wife had to go to the hospital after early morning doctors appointment to monitor the baby af ******** ********. Everything turned out perfect so we got released. I’m communicating the reason for the no show. I will be there 6am sharp. For what it’s worth sorry I didn’t hold my word.”. ***** was to finish the job on Friday, June 9th per his text. He did NOT finish the job. At 2:20pm; ***** texted *** and ***** “Do you think you guys could schedule the inspection for tomorrow possibly? I’m on my way to pick up the 3 pieces now so I’m going to put it on as soon as I get back to town. I’ll have everything done tonight.” ***** responded: “we will call for the inspection when the job is done. At 6:50pm; *** texted ***** “Are you coming tonight to finish the job?” ***** responded: “I’m just passing through Toledo on the turnpike now. I’ll put all the panels on tonight.”. ***** did NOT show back up until mid-week the following week. In-between this time frame; a leak appeared in the bathroom that damaged the wall; cabinets; ceiling and possibly more yet we are still waiting for estimate. Please note that the original leak ***** notes in his response was a roof leak in our bar area that is two rooms away from the bathroom. Also please note that the new metal roof above the bathroom had NOT been replaced as of June 12th and the downspout in this specific area was not installed. See pictures. On June 10th, 2023; ***** went back into Menards and spoke with ***** and she stated that ***** ordered supplies for our roof on April 27th, 2023 and on June 6th, 2023 and suggested again that we contact the Attorney General’s office because she knew ***** was doing something else with our money but wouldn’t go into detail because of Menard’s customer privacy policy and ***** is the one who ordered the supplies. She stated that she would be able to provide more details directly to the Attorney General’s office. ***** finally showed up between June 13th – June 15th with a crew. After they started on the roof; ***** asked ***** to come inside to show ***** the leak damage he caused in the bathroom. ***** stated to ***** that he would repair the damage. ***** then continued working until approx. 5p.m. ***** nor I told ***** that he was to stop working. ***** did NOT clean up his mess and he did NOT complete the job nor fix any of his install errors that ***** had pointed out to *****. See attached pictures. On July 12th, 2023; ***** posted on Facebook a copy of the contract (attached) that contained ******* personal information (Address, Phone number, email address). *** texted him telling him to take it off and that he did not have permission to post personal information. He stated that since we went legal on him; he had every right. Please note that we have not been able to get someone on top of the roofs to inspect from above. All of the attached pictures were taken from the ground. We will be more than happy to also provide screenshots of all texts to include time stamps.

Hi ***** & J** ********. In the beginning it was a pleasure meeting you guys and working together to get your leaky roof fixed. In short we went into contract march 18th for $24,000 to include roof and gutters on both house and garage. We informed you that we were waiting to hear back from one other company for material quote. Once received we proceeded to go with menards on April 18th. We were told 6-10 days for the order yet wasn’t available until mid May. Understanding the time taken thus far we picked up directly from main warehouse. When whether allowed we proceeded to install roof. We worked on the roof Monday - Friday until almost finished. When we realized 3 pieces of pro rib was cut to incorrect lengths. When we called menards they said they shipped a complete roof to store location and told us to swap pieces. Store had no extra roof. Placed new order for 3 pieces when available we once again travelled to warehouse picked up pieces and worked on roof until dark. We arrived in the morning ***** said we were not welcomed on the property due to possible leak. Attorney general was already notified you better not be here when *** get home! We finished laying panels and made sure that “leak” couldn’t continue throughout this process. We noticed that everytime we discussed scheduling inspections you were hesitant as if money wouldn’t be available. We offered to pay for inspections right before asked to leave premises. Inspection you said you had was done during a cookout from the ground. We offered solutions for gutters and everything was turned down by customer. In the end we remained off property which ofcourse left roof unfinished. We asked for money to be put in escrow and paid out once inspected by 3rd party. Also refused. You posted that we scammed you all over Facebook groups. Left roof unfinished and you now have to lock your doors. But left out we were informed to leave. $24,000 is a good amount of money yet you got 3 other quotes. 2 in the $30’s and one for $18,000 without gutters. As advised by legal counsel this is all I can say. Thank you

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because ***** is not only making things up but is lying and we will not stoop to his level. We have plenty of evidence to support our case which he is not even acknowledging the damage he caused.

      Sincerely,

      ***** ********

Company told BBB that they were in the process of correcting the issues with the quality of work you detailed in your complaint when you asked them to leave the job and kicked them off your property, not to return.  They acknowledge you gave them $15,000.00 down payment.  They said they had more than $3500.00 in the gutter work including materials and labor, had approximately $7500.00 in the steel roofing and 11 days of labor.  They also said that you provided siding for one side of your house, which they offered to install as a favor, because they were in that area working on the roof (and did this without charging you).  Since you fired them from the job, they said you had someone else tear off their work and reinstall the roof.  They said they will not be offering a refund.
