On Monday, August 12th, 2024, I received the letter in the mail from a company by the name of the Great Lakes Construction Company. In this letter, this company, who I never heard of prior to this date, is telling me I need to pay them $6,113, attributed to an accident that happened in Cincinnati, Ohio in September of 2023. My son was driving and lives in Cincinnati. I was in Toledo at the time of the accident. My concerns are, why is this company just now contacting me for the first time in demanding this amount of money and it's been almost a year since the accident? Secondly, I don't have this type of money just to be giving it out, and I also have full coverage insurance on the vehicle which was a 2013 Cadillac SRX, at the time. Unfortunately, my phone will not allow me to attach the letter document due to low memory.Business response

We are in receipt of your letter regarding a complaint filed by **. ******* concerning the motor vehicle
accident involving his vehicle that occurred on September 27, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio; reference
Cincinnati Police Report Number *********.
The accident occurred within an Ohio Department of Transportation construction zone. The Ohio
Department of Transportation has very specific requirements concerning accidents that occur on an Ohio
Department of Transportation (ODOT) project. Those requirements are included in Great Lakes
Construction’s contract with the State of Ohio Department of Transportation. Those contractual
requirements are documented in the ODOT Construction and Material Specifications. Those requirements
include notification to ODOT, contacting local law enforcement, notifying the motorist and their insurance
company. The ODOT Construction and Material Specifications requirements also contain strict guidelines
for preparing a cost estimate for the repairs, including material costs invoices, and labor cost reports. It
does take some time to accumulate all that documentation required by ODOT. As soon as our Subcontractor
submits their costs, Great Lakes Construction sends out the required notification.
**. ******* and his insurance company, Liberty Mutual, were notified by certified US mail as required by
our Ohio Department of Transportation contract. Liberty Mutual has already responded to Great Lakes
Construction requesting additional information. Great Lakes in turn has forwarded the requested
information back to Liberty Mutual, including the police report, photos, and detailed cost breakdown with
associated payroll reports and material invoices. This is the normal procedure and is not considered out of
the ordinary; but it does take preparation and time both for Great Lakes and our Subcontractors to be able
to respond to these requests.
Lastly, the State of Ohio Revised Code allows two (2) years from when the cause of action occurred to file
a claim. Great Lakes Construction Company is well within its legal rights at this time.
