Dr. Fishbaugh was VERY unprofessional with my 7yr old daughter. He was rude to me about how this is her first eye exam. Then when it came to eye drops he held my daughters head down as she was crying in a panic because she's never went through this before. I tried helping but he wouldn't let her go, I had to FORCEFULLY REMOVE this grown man's hand from her head. After I told him to stop and let her go he was being to aggressive. He went off saying well she should've had it done at 6-9 months old. Not wait til she's older and bad eyes. When I told him again he was to aggressive he went on to say well if she gets worse she'll have to get shots at the drs because her eyes are bad. I was FUMING! He then proceeded to come into the room we were waiting in for another dr. And he came in and said "Really, Nice move." I said Excuse me?!" Your so unprofessional and a grown man forcefully holding down a terrified 7 yr old. He then shut the door and I immediately said "No you can open that door right now!" (It was me and my 2 daughters in the room alone). He said fine and then proceeded to be unprofessional and said another dr will be in. I was shaking in rage and wanted to cry because he was so unprofessional and aggressive! He should NOT be working with children! Sad thing is he is the owner.

      Fishbaugh Family Eye Care Response

      10/13/2021

Fishbaugh Family Eyecare is passionate about patient awareness and education. We want to give every child an equal opportunity in life. The best patient outcomes are when eye exams are started at 6-9 months and yearly after. Vision problems in children have a significant adverse effect on a child's development. Children under age 8 frequently need dilated. The child may be apprehensive, but with parent consent the child can often be dilated with the help of the parent holding the patient and drops massaged into their eyes. Typically, this takes less than 1 minute and children respond fine. For very agitated and non-cooperative children, a referral may be needed for sedation before examination, which should be avoided if possible for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, and too often it is not considered that there be health, psychological, sociological, economic, and nutritional issues that can effect ones irrational behavior, verbiage, communication, understanding and/or thought process.

In this particular incident, this patient responded very well with being in mother's lap and mother helping to instill the drops. Parent became agitated while massaging drops in patient's eye. While waiting for the drops to come in affect, parent became verbally aggressive and didn't want Dr. Fishbaugh to complete the exam, but allowed Dr. Bankey to do so. The parent and other daughter were also already scheduled with Dr. Bankey, who completed their examinations.

The older daughter was older and did well with the drops and without the assistance of the parent.
