      To whom it may concern,

This letter is in regards to Mr. ***** ***** concerns regarding hi 14 year old feline *****, which was seen 7/12/22 and 8/9/22 for services at Heidt Veterinary Hospital for a history of chronic diarrhea 1 year in duration.

He stated that he had money constraints and declined blood work and radiographs to further diagnose his condition. Treatment for a tentative diagnosis of IBD was discussed with Mr. *****. All treatment/injections were discussed, agreed upon and performed in the exam room with patient and client present. At no point did Mr. ***** decline the treatment discussed.

On 8/9/22 Mr. ***** returned for a follow up stating *****'s diarrhea was much improved, but not resolved. On September 19th, 2022 ***** was seen by our associate DVM at Heidt Veterinary Hospital regarding a growth that has developed on *****.

On 9/27/22 Mr. ***** elected a second opinion with another hospital as per phone conversation.

I personally reached out by phone to Mr. ***** multiple times 11/29/22 and 12/1/22 to discuss *****'s conditions and treatments indicated for condition presented at the time of service.

We regret that Mr. ***** feels that treatment was performed without consent.

      Thank you,

      Dr. *** *******

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: That is a complete lie. I told him he can't use steroids. He went and did it anyway. He made it sound like it was the only treatment. They didn't care. The last time I talked to him on the phone. He stated he would give me my money back but he told me to call the other vet who fixed the cat and see if the vet would work with me on my bill for the surgery the cat had to have. I want you to cover the cost of the surgery.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *****

Today I was charged $53 for a veterinary visit when the doctor absolutely refused to give me antibiotics for my stock she said that he had an ear infection and that she would prescribe me paste but she refused to describe antibiotics without a prostate exam when I said no to the prostate exam she charged me $52 for an office visit in refuse to give me any antibiotics whatsoever for my dog I want the antibiotics for my dog and I do not need to do a prostate exam because the dog has a urinary infection it's clearly stated on my dog's medical record that he has a history with urinary infection and accident problems with wetting And if they're still gonna refuse to give any antibiotics then I want my office visit $53 back because it was absolutely not professional for you to charge me when you wouldn't even exam in the dog and you refuse to give antibiotics

      To Whom it concerns,

The following is a transcription of ***** ****** medical records transcribed into layman's terms.

On 4/1/2022, *****, a 10-year old, intact male Labrador/Pit bull mix presented for evaluation for discharge from his penis and dribbling urine.  His owner reported no urinary accidents at that time and otherwise doing well.  ***** was previously examined on 12/18/2020 for urinary accidents.  At that exam, his prostate was found to be enlarged but not painful.  An antibiotic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) were prescribed for a suspected UTI.  It was recommended at that visit that if signs worsened or recurred, a urinalysis and/or abdominal x-rays would be indicated.

Upon examination on 4/1/2022, ***** was found to have severe erythema, purulent discharge and pain at both ears indicating a severe ear infection (otitis externa).  On abdominal palpation, he was tense and possibly painful around his bladder.  A rectal exam was also performed on ***** at this time, to which his prostate was found to be enlarged and painful.  Other than these concerning findings. the rest of *****'s physical exam was unremarkable.

*****'s owner was informed that potential causes of *****'s dribbling urine could be urinary bladder disease, prostatic disease or a combination of both.  Potential urinary bladder causes included bladder stone (uroliths), bladder cancer (most commonly transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), and/or recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) secondary to another cause.  Potential prostatic causes included prostatitis, prostatic cancer, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).  Since *****'s prostatic health had worsened since his previous visit, the most likely cause of his signs was suspected to be due to prostatic disease, with one of the main concerns being cancer.  This was explained to the owner in depth.

In order to determine the appropriate treatment for *****, I discussed performing a urinalysis and abdominal x-ray.  I recommended performing the urinalysis first o check for bacteria, crystals (indicated a possible bladder stone), and cancerous cells.  Then, if indicated, an abdominal x-ray could further determine if bladder stones or prostatic cancer was present.  *****'s owner was informed of these necessary diagnostic tests but declined.  At this point, the owner became belligerent and accused me of only recommending these diagnostic tests for more money.  The concerns listed above were reiterated tot he owner, and since these tests were declined, it was unknown what treatment ***** needed.  I then explained that an antibiotic may not be indicated and *****'s condition could worsen.  I explained that ***** may actually need a cystotomy to remove bladder stones or castration to improve prostatic health. The owner still declined the urinalysis and further care.

I then explained the concern for *****'s ear infection, ad recommended an ear paste that would be the best treatment to heal his ears without causing more pain.  The owner declined and said she would purchase an over-the-counter ear cleaner.  I explained this may worsen the infection and cause ***** more unnecessary pain.  The owner still declined.

Since *****'s owner declined these necessary diagnostic tests and treatment, I was unable to provide ***** with any further care.
