On February 8th we paid R****** automotive in Madison ohio 500.00 to do some work on our 2004 GMC Envoy, 100.00 plus labor was for new VVT to be installed. We have written reciept from owner Tim R******. When we pulled out of his shop the check engine light came on, we called him and he suggested getting an oil change, which we did immediately. The light was still on, we went to autozone and they said we needed to replace the VVT, which we said we just paid for. He pointed to the part and said it was definitely not new. We went to R****** automotive and he said O'Reilly auto parts sold him that used part, which O'Reilly denied. Now our vehicle is sitting in our drive and cannot be moved. O'Reilly gave us a portion of the cost, mr R****** gave us another portion, but was a few dollars short, and gave nothing towards the labor. Now he is saying we need a new engine! We need help with this man, and hope to keep others from same misfortune.Business response

Feb. 8th, **** came in, check engine light was on., told him the code was a VVT code, Tim installed the VVT solenoid, new brakes, and new battery. The VVT code sometimes comes on when the engine loses oil pressure, which would happen if the car was run out of oil.
After later talking with ****, when he picked up the vehicle that same day, Tim found out he ran the car out of oil, **** told him this, and Tim told him that is probably why the check engine light was on and gave the VVT code. He did call later that day that he picked up the car and Tim advised him to get an oil change. We didn't hear anything back from him until almost 3 months. **** comes back and said the check engine light was back on. Checked the code, VVT code was on again, while the vehicle was running Tim heard the car knocking and figured he ran it out of oil again and told **** he needs new engine. He drove the vehicle away. He came back a couple of days later with the VVT solenoid in his hand, that Tim had installed and claimed it was used.
**** came in to get his refund and told Tim he took it upon himself to change the VVT solenoid again after I told him he needed a new engine
He accused me of putting a used part in which is a lie.
The person at Auto Zone is a salesman, not a mechanic, I never said it was a used part. I have the receipt to show my purchase and O'Reilly denies also that it was used. The part is normally silver in color and this one just happened to be black, which might be why Auto Zone thought it was a used part.
The car appeared to have been neglected mechanically for years. It had over 140, 700 miles on it and it is a 17 year old vehicle.
Thank you for hearing my side of this incident. I look forward to the outcome of this incident. I have attached my receipt from O'Reilly to show my purchase of the new VVT solenoid.Customer response
