We purchased a used car (2016 Honda CRV) for our soon-to-be 16 year old on 11/17/23 that was advertised as a clean title, no accidents, in working condition. Once we got the vehicle home and had a mechanic inspect it, the car had clearly been in some type of accident where the windshield and side mirrors were replaced. There was faulty wiring with the lane assist that they weren’t able to repair and had found that the side mirrors and windshield were replaced. We notified the used car company and they offered to trade the car in for $4000 less than we paid for it. They would only do this if we traded it in (less value) for another one of their used vehicles. Our allegations are that this car was not safely inspected prior to reselling. My husband pulled a mouse nest out of the bottom of the car. Unfortunately, we we purchased this car for our 16 year old and don’t feel safe with her driving it. The used car salesman (Collin *******) would not cancel the sale and refund our money, which told us that they no longer wanted the defective, falsely advertised car. This is a danger to others if they are selling cars under false advertisement. Furthermore, we were only given page one of the buyers guide, and it states see other side for important additional information regarding a list of major defects that may occur in used motor vehicles. Attached are the pictures of the vehicle report, mouse nest pulled out of bottom of car, and mechanic’s repairs when he inspected the vehicle. Because we would not sell the car back to them for $4000 and buy another one of their used cars, we declined the offer to purchase another shady car from them.

I unequivocally deny Mrs. ******** claims on many levels.

She and her husband test drove this vehicle and could have taken it to a mechanic to inspect prior to them purchasing it an signing all documents.  At the time of the sale, Mr ******* presented the buyers with the FULL CARFAX.  As it is noted in Mrs. ******** attachment as well as ours, this vehicle history shows absolutely NO accidents reported.  On the contrary, the Carfax details 24 vehicle service records performed on the CRV dating back to 2016, under the ONE previous owner!!

Furthermore, this vehicle was listed at $17,970 selling price.  The ******** and Mr. ******* discussed the mirrors not functioning properly and agreed to reduce the price to $17,240 for them because of this issue.  They purchased the vehicle that day(11/18/2023) and took possession.  Some time on 12/5, we were contacted by the ******** explaining they took the vehicle to a technician and then they sent us the repair and diagnostic order.  This invoice totalling $809.37 detailed their mirror repairs for $374.95, repairing a fog light, and replacing 5 lug nuts that didn't match the others on the car.  They also had an oil lube and filter done totalling $48.64 which had just been completed at our Dealership 45 days prior and is noted on the CarFAX report.  There was a tire repaired and out of balance and a mouse nest removed.  We have no way of knowing the time frame on which those incidents occurred within the 3 weeks.  The body panels/bumpers were not removed at our location as the service work wasn't required so we wouldn't tear the car apart unnecessarily.

They called us demanding a refund because for the listed reasons above, this vehicle wasn't safe for a 17yo.  We operate our business with integrity and rely on the details of the Carfax to share information about the vehicle with our customers.  We did exactly that and they were more than satisfied at the time of purchase.  We passed on everything we knew about the vehicle to them and they in turn were confident in the vehicle and purchased it.

We have included the bookout sheet demonstrating that a $17,240 purchase price is almost a full $2,000 below the standard retail by JD Power.  We explained that we would be closer to $14,500 or so if they wanted to trade the car back in on 12/6/23 as we weren't going to pay her retail money for it. after we purchased it for wholesale value previously.   We sold it at retail but buy or trade in units based on loan value.  She was offered to purchase another vehicle and we would take that back but she hung up on Mr. ******* prior to him being able to discuss the situation any further.

We will not issue the ******** a refund on this vehicle but would still be willing to take it in on trade from them on another unit but they have clearly expressed that isn't an option for them.  I believe they will still be in a fantastic equity position on this vehicle as it most certainly was a very nice vehicle at the time of sale and now even has addtional maintenace performed(and all lug nuts match!)

      Complaint: 20970140

I am rejecting this response because:

I absolutely do not agree with the statements. We are no longer wish for a refund on the care in full but rather request that this business is investigated for fraudulent claims. They are cranking out used cars to consumers that are trusting these vehicles are safe.
It goes beyond lug nuts matching- it’s that the vehicle was not thoroughly inspected and we trusted the business to have looked over the car for our SIXTEEN year old new driver. Safety should always be a priority for everyone, and North Main Motors moves these cars off their lot as soon as they get them in to make a dollar.
We would NEVER trade in a vehicle for another used vehicle from North Main Motors. At this point, we are aware of the vehicles TRUE history and problems, and have sunk money into the car to mitigate these. If they want to make it right, they can pay us the $1,500 we have already spent making this vehicle safe for our daughter to drive.
Please review other complaints that are very similar on their Facebook page. I will assure our experience with this unsafe business is known on all possible outlets. I will also encourage others with similar experiences to contact the BBB until their business practices change.

I will maintain that buyers should beware and am hopeful that our poor experience will save other consumers from putting their safety in jeopardy.

      Regards,

      ******* *******

Everyone told not to buy a car from North main Motors. Even the tow-truck driver old my daughter, *******, all he been doing is taking vehicles back to North Main Motors. about January 12-2023, North Main Mortors came and got the car.

Ms. ***** has had her vehicle repossessed and failed to make timely payments under her Security Agreement. She purchased the 2005 Chevrolet Aveo,  for $4,000 with a $500 down payment.  She stated she needed an inexpensive simple form of transportation for herself to just get around town.   This type of inventory was limited but she was satisfied with the choice once we could replace the tires.  At some point after the purchase, it was discovered that the vehicle needed additional repairs regarding the power steering and some additional rack and pinion work.  North Main Motors covered the cost of all of the labor for Ms. ***** in the amount of $608. 00 and set up a payment plan for her to make payments on the remaining $300 balance.  The vehicle needed a hose clamp that North Main Motors in good faith repaired at no charge.

The complainant and complainants daughter would begin to call in and argue and yell at our sales manager and demand we fix and pay for everything to do with this vehicle.  We chose to not respond to their demands and rudeness.  Ms ***** stopped paying for her vehicle.  She made it known to our collection department she took her license plates off of the vehicle hoping the vehicle would be towed so we couldn't get to the car.

I believe North Main Motors has extended many opportunities for Ms ***** and her daughter (who ultimately drives this vehicle) all avenues to work together on rectifying this situation.  She chose not to communicate with us in a respectful and responsible manner.  It is truly unfortunate

I had went in to North Main Motors march 8th, 2022 to look at a new used car for myself. I had worked with ***** ******* and he let me test drive a Hyundai Elantra and I did really like it so I gave them $500 to hold the car. Well due to my financial situation I wasn’t able to afford the $2000 down payment and also pay off my current car. So I told them at 10:30am march 9th, 2022 that I was unable to purchase the $500 and that I would like the money back. They stated it was a non refundable deposit but they could hold it for me until I am ready to get a new car. I believe that is horrible business practice to be using non refundable deposits. Now that it’s December I remembered I had that money sitting there and I really need it for my own financial situation I’m in now. I have been told by 2 other car dealerships that it is not legal in the state of ohio to withhold my money. I never signed a contract for a car and frankly I can’t afford another car for another year or 2 and I don’t want that money to go to waste. I just want my hard earned money back. I called them 12/13/2022 to ask for my money back and I spoke with Ron the store manager and he stated that he would have to hear back from their attorney and get back with me the next day, well he never did get back with me. Ron also talked poorly about my finance. Stating he shouldn’t have posted a hateful review on Facebook and to “keep your husband off Facebook”. Very unprofessional business practice. I just want my $500 back that’s is rightfully mine.

Ms. ****** knew on 3/8 at the time she paid the $500 deposit to hold the Hyundai Sonata, that it was going to be Non-refundable.  This was discussed in depth prior to Ms. ****** making the transaction and the receipt that she was provided on that day for her credit card pmt stated that fact as well.

Ms. ****** was in contact with North Main Motors in February via the internet portal and then contacted by our Salesman ****** ******* to follow up on the inquiry.  She initially messaged about a Chevy Cruze.  She relayed information that she was expected her tax refund soon and should be getting a sizable return back and wanted to payoff her other vehicle and then use money to make a down payment on a vehicle.    A couple weeks later Mr. ******* reached back out and the funds were still not available.    On March 7, Ms. ****** texted ****** to say she would have her tax return March 15th.  On March 8th, again she contacted and said she was getting the tax money earlier and this is when she came in test drove and selected the Hyundai Sonata and put the deposit on it and and would be taking delivery of it on that Thursday.

On March 10, Mr. ******* received yet another message she might have to wait now, funds were not as expected and used elsewhere.  The deposit was explained that it would hold the Sonata off of the lot keeping it "not for sale" until that Monday.  If she could not get the full down payment that particular car would go back up for sale until she could and/or we could transfer her deposit toward another down payment when she was ready.  She agreed and understood.

Mr. ******* stayed in contact with Ms. ****** for a bit checking in on the status if she would still be interested in moving that deposit to a down payment on a different vehicle - even in June, he noted that he spoke with her about it.  She said she still thought that it wasn't possible at that time.  She knew it was non-refundable but could be transferred.

She contacted our company before Christmas saying she was wanting her money back for Christmas.  We recapped all of the above.  Her Fiance I believe has been calling in and demanding her money as well as blowing up social media against us for this.  She has also attacked us on social media now after this run-in with her Fiance but has never had any discussions with us about any of this prior to this.

My husband and I just within the past week , week and some days at the most from north main motors , located here to us locally in Marysville Ohio. Had our mechanic check out the vehicle prior to us purchasing the vehicle , the scan check that was done and everything else that was noticed by the mechanic was documented , and printed on paper , and given back to the salesman *** ****** with whom we dealt with. A hub bearing was fixed prior to us getting the vehicle . The asking price for the vehicle we got financed for from north main was $12,500 we gave $7,000 cash for the vehicle with a loan to make payments on the remaining balance . This morning , the vehicle has a collapsed lifter (which causes a knock in the engine) the issue was already saw by north main prior to the sale , they tried other repairs to fixed the issue prior to us having any knowledge of the vehicle . Now I have 2 vehicles from North Main motors sitting in my driveway that I can not drive .

Date 8-23-22 Was told guaranteed financing approval with reasonable payments, Ok we can approve you for a 7000 dollar car but need 5000 dollars down. Definitely unethical Definitely a scam even after being told that our credit was far less than perfect almost horrible they guaranteed financing.

      Business response

We were contacted by the potential customer and asked about our financing options available.  Our salesman explained that we provide numerous styles of financing and lenders.  We can guarantee financing with the proper vehicle selected to match the current credit statement, credit history, job time, residence time and down payment etc.   This particular customer then explained they had four prior repossessions, some even recent and asked if we would guarantee financing to her.  Our salesman said that we would but it would need to be on a certain vehicle priced at $7000 and she asked how much down payment that would take and he told her based on the credit picture for us to take that financing risk, we would need $4000 to $5000 or she could get a cosigner to improve the loan and we could take a different look at the application at that point and either lessen the down payment requirement or she could even look at a different van because she wanted much more expensive vehicles.  She mentioned her cosigner also had four repossessions.  We advised her that we would need to remain at the original terms and then after a positive payment history on this vehicle she was more than welcome to continue to do business with us and trade the vehicle back for something different and continue to rebuild her credit here as hundreds of customers have done over our 35 years in business.  This customer chose to not purchase the vehicle.

After speaking with the Sales Manager again, I regret that I slightly misstated the facts of the situation.  He provided me with the credit reports that the Complainant mentioned on the rejection.  My initial response stated repossessions.  After reviewing them, I see now that they are in fact current Auto Collections in default at least 3 to 5 months - I believe my assumption was that they were repossessed at this stage.  I also said there were 4 negative Auto tradelines and in fact - there are 3 negative and 1 showed closed, not in collections.   There is a Charge Off that is not an Auto that I confused with the other 3 Auto loans in collections.

Not withstanding my above comments, North Main Motors advised that we would extend credit with a sizable down payment on a properly selected, reasonably priced vehicle with a short term loan and guarantee to finance the balance to this consumer on a payment plan.  The customer declined the arrangement.

I bought a Honda element off of them and i have had continuous problems with my car and the staff. I originally started to notice a loud banging noise about 3 days after purchasing the Honda element. The problems with the car continued to persist and I wasn't sure what to do because I couldn't fix it all. When I went to make my payment the lady said my payment didn't go through. I then contacted my banks support and proved that my payment did go through. She stated that my screenshots and emails were not enough proof even though I had bank statements. She then contained to call me a liar and harass me about the payment. I never received money back on my account. And they repoed my car last night.

      Business response

Since receiving the complaint from Ms. ****, I have had discussions with the Business Manager as well as the Sales Manager.  Neither of these two had any recollection of ever being contacted by Ms. **** regarding any mechanical issues on her Honda Element.  This correspondence is the first we heard about these problems.

Ms. **** was in talks with the Collections Department for quite some time regarding what she believed to be an posted payment on her account.  She did not like the fact that we couldn’t just use screenshots from her CashApp showing she made the payment.  We explained the account was in arrears because the payment was never received and authorized from her account according to our bank records.  We informed her on numerous occasions that she could bring in or have her bank forward bank statements showing the transaction in question and we never were provided those.

******* made a few payments after the missed payment and we agreed to continue to work with her on getting her account cleared up if we could get the proper bank documentation.  She informed us she was “still working on that.”.  At some point soon after, ******* failed to make several more payments and just stopped acknowledging all communication with our Account Collection Manager. She did make mention at some point that she was going to call the BBB on us if we didn’t get her account fixed- she was told that we hadn’t done anything wrong to her account and would be willing to correct any error that was discovered when she provided her bank statements showing we missed posting a payment.

She did email the Sales Manager and inform him that she was being harassed by our Collections Department.  There was still no mention of mechanical issues with the vehicle.  He asked to see the conversations at which time they were forwarded to him.  He replied to Ms. **** that he in fact didn’t believe she was being harassed but instead clearly informed about what was going to happen if she didn’t resume making payments on her account.   She failed to respond to him further, nor make any additional payments.

The Honda Element was subsequently repossessed 6/26/22 .  It was shortly thereafter that we received this formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

North Main Motors will continue to pursue Ms. **** for the balance deficiency on this loan.  All required documents are signed and in our records to file with the Court in this matter.
