All auctioneers are required to enter into a contract with the owner or consignee of the property to be sold. Consumers should review the details of the contract: Does it state the type of auction that I am having?Does it cover the auctioneer fees?Does it cover the advertising and labor?Consumers should fully understand the services for which they will be paying. They should also consider: Auctioneer's expertise: Some auctioneers specialize in certain types of auctions. Ask the auctioneer if they know the market; the value of the property and how to attract the buyers most interested in the property. Ask for their marketing plan. Experience: Auctioneers can conduct anywhere from a few dozen or over 100 auctions in a year. Ask the auctioneer how much experience they have and how long they have been in the business; ask if the auctioneer has earned any special designations or honors from any professional organizations or if they are licensed appraisers. References: Ask for references from former clients. Licensing: Call the Ohio Department of Agriculture to see if the auctioneer is licensed and in good standing.             I registered with their website on January 16, 2024, they required a credit card. I bid on auctions that they had and won. I asked for a shipping quote. Their initial email states to “contact us for shipping rates.” Yet they replied that they don’t do quotes and that they needed my credit card information in order to ship the items. To me, it seemed really sketchy. February 5, I was surprised to receive a message verifying that they had received my payment of $236, which my credit card was fraudulently charged, and to contact them to arrange shipping. I again asked how much shipping was and they said that they won’t do shipping quotes. Without knowing how much shipping would cost, I told them I no longer wanted the items and that I never authorized payment. I asked them to cancel the purchase. They replied to my email, stating, “We forced payment on your card. We can refund your money and post you as a non paying bidder. Please let us know how to proceed.” I replied asking them to refund my money. Then on February 8, they again sent me a request for my credit card and shipping information. I replied that I had canceled the purchase in a previous email. They replied saying they could not cancel because I already paid. I sent them a screenshot of the email where they said they would refund my money. I have not heard from them since. In conclusion, if they would have told me how much shipping was and it was a reasonable price, I would have gladly paid for shipping and received my items. However, they refused to tell me how much shipping would be. It could be $100 or $200 and I wouldn’t know until my credit card was charged. At this point, I don’t trust them. They said they could refund my money as an option, and so I asked them to refund my money. It has now been 8 days since I asked for a refund and I have not heard from them or seen a refund. I’ve attached copies of the emails mentioned in this letter. I appreciate your help and cooperation.
