Adam Burgess installed a "new" furnace and central air unit to our property. We do not have a written contract with him - it was all verbal. Adam was the only heating and air company to put an actual furnace with duct work in. Other companies said it would be too hard. To start, once Adam finally started the work, we found out that the furnace he installed was a 12 year old furnace that sat is a warehouse for 12 years. It works but it does have a whistle to it. We do not know if the central air unit works yet. Adam started the work in September of 2022 and completed the work in November 2022. He would ask us for more money to purchase additional items that he needed as well as telling us that "it is pay day for my employees - I need money"! He would follow us to the bank to get the money. He said there is a 10-year warranty. All we have to do is call him and he will come out and fix whatever is wrong with either unit and we would not be charged. I have asked Adam numerous times for a written 10-year warranty since we are selling the house and the purchaser needs the written warranty. I have had no success in getting a written warranty from him. Our attorney has written him a letter and there has been NO response from him at all. Our attorney suggested possibly filing a complaint in Small Claims Court as well as filing this complaint with the BBB. When both units were finally installed, our total was $13,995.00. I didn't realize I was paying that kind of money for a 12-year old furnace. He told us the age didn't matter - it was new still. We did a search on the Ohio Secretary of State's site to see if he was registered with them. We found nothing at all. On the BBB site he is listed as construction, but he told us the name of his company was "Burgess HVAC". I would NOT recommend Adam Burgess to anyone. He is a smooth talker and I do not want this to happen to anyone else. In my opinion, the job is not finished until we have a written warranty.
