Buckeye Custom Woodworking and Cabinets (Todd A*******) was contracted on 12-20-21 to do a variety of projects on a labor-only basis including making custom cabinets to match our existing kitchen cabinets, bookcases, lay wood flooring, custom fireplace mantels, etc in the amount of 20K. The project started out slow and he would come one week and not show another week. Todd kept delaying the cabinets and always promising we would receive them the next week. When we did receive the cabinets they were too small by 1” see floor plan and without doors. The bookcase came with missing items as well. He continued to do other projects and assured me that he would remake the cabinets. We had a good working relationship, so we PAID HIM IN FULL for the original contract! He assured me he would take care of all unfinished items. So decided to have him join our existing deck to the addition we had added and resurface the existing deck. When I saw they were nailing down the boards (about 10 in total) I asked Perry the one who did most of the work to stop that it was supposed to be screwed down which Todd and I had originally discussed, Todd pulled Perry off the job. I did not see or hear from them for a few days, so I called Todd and he told me if I wanted it screwed down to go buy the screws! At that point, I knew we needed to part ways. We asked Todd to meet to work out monies as there were many unfinished projects and we owed for deck lumber and partial labor on the deck which we later had to pay another contractor $400 to pull out because it was not level. Todd came to our home and handed us his bill and demanded monies and then placed a lien on our home. The credits that were given to us were grossly underestimated and some projects we can’t find any contractor to provide. We were left with not only hardwood floors that were installed incorrectly with many large and small gaps that will now cost us over 10k to replace. BE AWARE OF THIS CONTRACTOR! See photos.

      Pictures:

      1. Base cabinet as built to customer's custom specs.  She was paying for material, therefore she had to pay for a custom door.  She had not provided a door when the job was stopped.

      2. This custom cabinet is only missing the 2 glass doors that she had to order and pay for before I could install.  This had not happened when the job had ended.

3 and 4. Customer kept changing her mind about what was to be installed over the fridge. Nothing was made because she changed her mind every other day.

      5. Customer purchased flooring.  It was a substandard product.  I encouraged them to return it for a better product.  They did not want to pay the 30% restocking fee.  This is not a bad cut.  The substandard flooring has shrunk.

      6. Customer purchased the product to be installed.  This is a chip that happened after installation.

      7. Customer received a credit for this.

      8. See #7.

      9. Customer designed these cabinets.  Customer was responsible for purchasing doors.

      10. See #5 above.

      11. Customer's carpet layer chipped this when they installed the carpet.  Customer was to supply new casing for me to install.  She had not done so when the job ended.

      12. Customer did not chose and pay for material necessary to finish the job.

      13. See #12.

      14. See picture 9. It appears that customer uninstalled cabinet.  If the job had been paid for and completed, this would have been covered by a panel.

      15. Customer requested this.  She did not want to purchase more material.

Deck: Deck was already existing.  Another contractor build the deck addition.  I was contracted to purchase material, remove existing deck boards, nail on new deck boards, finish a railing and make new steps.  We were in the process of nailing down the deck.  Husband stated that it looked amazing.  She called me and said she wanted it to be screwed down.  I agreed to screw it down if she purchased the screws.  Then she complained that the deck was our of level and wanted it fixed.  I agreed to level it but told her it would be an additional charge.  She said she wouldn't pay anything additional.  We stopped all work.  I met with the couple and requested payment for the deck materials and the labor that had been completed.  They refused to pay.  I gave them a credit for work that had not been completed in the house and sent a final bill which was not paid.

This email is in reference to response to Buckeye Custom Cabinets (Woodworking). As you can see from the first complaint (email) the pictures and information I provided is self -explanatory. But I would like to respond to his response with some additional information and attachments.

The base cabinet was supposed to be made to fit existing space that was laid out by ***** (see attachment in first e-mail ). See attach texts between us showing I asked repeatedly if I should purchase from ***** because he was not delivering the cabinets. He specifically told me no. (text on 4-6-22).    I did pay for all materials but I was promised a cabinets with doors (please see text on 5-9-22 saying he was ordering glass doors). As you can see from his response he is lying!  Just for reference who orders a kitchen cabinet without a door?  These were 8” cabinets which are not a standard width, I would have had to order custom doors which is what I hired him for. As you can see from the multiple texts he was unable to deliver.  We had discussed several times that he was not able to match the arch like the other cabinets so I agreed to accept a straight raised panel. The person that was supposed to make the cabinets and bookcase was quite sick (see text 4-5-22) and Todd said he was not answering his phone calls.

As you can see there was many inquiries regarding the cabinets and not any mention of me providing the doors.  That is just unbelievable that we would pay for just boxes.  As you can see in Todds statement that we were supposed to supply the glass doors YET THE TEXT CLEARLY SHOWS HE WAS GOING TO ORDER BECAUSE HIS CABINET MAKER DID NOT COME THRU.

Please see TEXT DATED ON 5-9-22 SHOWING TODD WAS ORDERING GLASS DOORS
This was supposed to be just a plain over the fridge cabinet.  There was no design change or change whatsoever. He has no proof it was anything but an over the fridge cabinet.
      See #3
Please see attached from ********** showing this is a product that was not a substandard product and is still carried today.  Also see attachment on original complaint showing a flooring installation expert stating the floor was installed incorrectly.  *** ****** stated if it was shrinking it would be doing it on the linear and not just where it was butted up.
The pictures of the inferior wood also shows chips 2-3 feet above the floor.   I had spoken with Todd and he said he would replace no problem. Never happened.
We never received any cabinets!  Not sure how or where we would find custom cabinets for $60???????
      Cabinet hardware never installed
The cabinets were to be 9” the base was 8” with no doors.  The top cabinet was also 8” no door.  No cabinet ever made for above refrigerator.
The carpet could not have chipped the wood work in chunks it was just an inferior piece of wood.  Also chipped 2-3 ft above flooring
      See #10
I think he is referring to office doors, nothing to purchase he was to shave doors down so they could close.
13.NOT SURE WHAT HE IS REFERRING TO BUT THE FIREPLACE WAS NOT FINISHED.  WE PAID FOR ALL MATERIALS STILL IN OUR GARAGE.  WE EVEN HAD A CREDIT AT *** WHERE ALL WOOD WAS PURCHASED!  WHICH WE WERE INFORMED THAT WE HAD A CREDIT THAT TODD DID NOT TELL US AOUT.

DECK-THIS WAS A VERBAL AGREEMENT.THE AGREED AMOUNT WAS 10K TO JOIN THE OLD DECK TO THE NEW ADDITION AND TO RESURFACE THE OLD DECK.  THEY BUILT THE ADJOINING DECK AND PULLED OFF THE OLD DECK.  THEY STARTED TO NAIL DOWN THE BOARDS ON THE ADJOING DECK AND I STOPPED THEM ABOUT 6 BOARDS IN AND SAID WE HAD AGREED TO SCREWS.  PERRY SAID TO CALL TODD AND HE PULLED PERRY OFF THE JOB.  THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER CONTRACTOR.  AGAIN WHY WOULD TODD PULL OFF ALL DECKING BOARDS BUT DID NOT BUILD THE FRAME THAT AJOINED THE DECK TO THE ORIGIANL DECK?  JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.  WE ENDED UP TAKING DOWN THE ADJOING DECK (SEE PREVIOUS ATTACHMENT)  ALSO SEE TEXT REGARDING ISSUES WITH DECK.

THROUGH OUT THE PROJECT TODD DID DO SOME WONDERFUL WORK INCLUDING SETTING OLD CABINETS, SINKS TRIM WORK ETC.  YES, WE WOULD TELL TODD WHAT A GOOD JOB HE WAS DOING AND WE WERE GRATEFUL WE HAD A CONTRACTOR  WHICH WE WERE MORE THEN PATIENT WITH WHEN THE JOB GOT DELAYED AS YOU CAN SEE WITH THE TEXT.  I BELIEVED HIM WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD FINISH OUT CABINETS AND WORK NOT FINISHED.  I NOW KNOW NEVER TO PAY UNTIL THE JOB IS FINISHED.

RESOLUTION FOR US WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE LEIN FROM OUT HOME.  IF THAT IS NOT AGREEABLE THEN WE WILL SEEK LEGAL ACTION AND MAKE SURE ALL SOCIAL MEDIA IS INFORMED.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP, BUT BUCKEYE CUSTOM SHOULD NOT BE ON THE BBB.

I took on this job that was started and in process by another contractor.  The customer stood in front of me crying about this job that was left unfinished by someone else. The agreement with previous contractor was to try and reuse old cabinets mixed with new cabinets.  There was never an accurate drawing.  Customer continually changed her mind about cabinets, therefore cabinets could not be completed before the customer terminated the relationship. Doors for custom cabinets (designed by customer) would have been ordered if customer had paid for them (she was paying for materials). There were many conversations other than texts which have been taken out of context.  Customer knew she had to pay for doors as she had already paid for material to make the boxes.

Over fridge cabinet was a long on going conversation between myself and customer.  Customer could not decide what she wanted before she terminated the relationship.

As was previously explained in my original response, the flooring that was purchased is cheap flooring.  Despite this, it was installed correctly. Customer purchased this inferior product despite conversations between us about the quality of materials being purchased.

All cabinet hardware that was purchased was installed at the time.

I completed work on the deck and completed work on the exterior windows that I have not been paid for. Customer stated that there was an unwritten agreement that the deck work would be $10,000. Customer should look at her original estimate of $12,000 for deck work which was printed and handed to her.

Customer received credits for unfinished interior work.

Solution: Pay me what is owed for work that was completed and I will remove the lien.
