We paid $440 to have 12 tons of gravel delivered to our home on 2/28/23 via ****’s Trucking in West Jefferson, OH. The delivery driver dumped the gravel and the proceeded to pull forward into our lawn, where he got stuck and spun his tires for the next 2 hours digging himself into 3 ft ruts. He eventually have to call a tow company to come and pull the truck out of our yard. There were multiple areas of damage but the large, 3 foot deep ruts shown in the picture were extremely bad. I was not concerned and we called the company to discuss them repairing our land. We spoke with the owner (****) who yelled at us, blamed us for having wet grass and told us “we delivered the product you asked for, we did our job.” When showing him pictures and asking him to cover the cost of the damages done to our yard, **** told us it was our fault and he would not be paying for it and we shouldn’t have ordered gravel to be delivered after a rain storm. We never gave anyone permission to drive in our grass nor did the driver ask for it. **** (the owner) told us to have our attorney contact his attorney because he wouldn’t be paying for anything. We are devastated as the damage is in our front yard and looks awful, we do not have the funds to fight this in court.

      Business response

      03/02/2023

At this point, we here at ****’s Trucking feel we owe the community some response to this conversation.  As you might imagine, our point of view on this incident is very different.  Our view of the facts is different.  Part of our response (and where we are now in this incident) may be based on how we were treated and spoken to.   As you might imagine, as anyone would likely do, ********* is presenting her view of the incident.  We understand that.  We are fine with that.  Yet, it would not make any sense at any level to cast aspersions on ********* or engage in some long, on-line conversation where everyone comes off worse for it.  We just want to remind you who we are.  We are a local family-owned business.  We have been in this community for 40 years working to be a good corporate citizen and like all of you,  we are just trying to care for our family, who all work hard in the business.  We have a record of 40 years of generous support for the schools that generations of your and our kids have benefited from.   Lastly, nobody gets “ripped off” price-wise because we are in an industry where the pricing is so close, we could not do it, even if we wanted to.  We will continue to do our best to offer our products at competitive prices in a professional manner.  That’s all we that need for you to know about ****’s Trucking.

      Customer response

[If you do not say why you are rejecting the company's response, BBB must close your complaint.]

      Complaint: 19515252

I am rejecting this response because: The "long, drawn out" online post you speak of was not made until after the fact, which you know. On February 28, 2023, your driver made a plethora of poor decisions which resulted in extensive damage to our yard. Upon coming into your office (to speak to you face to face), we left the conversation with you stating you would fix our yard. Upon me asking you for a timeline of when this might happen, it was obvious you became very defensive. Still, I accepted the fact that you said you would fix our yard, thanked you and left. All of this is recorded as well. You then called my husband and suddenly changed your mind and told him you "weren't fixing shit and to have our attorney contact you." Seems strange that you changed your mind so quickly.

Once you made it abundantly clear (On Feb 28 via phone call with my husband) that you would in fact not be fixing our yard like you originally claimed, I decided to give you a couple days to change your mind. You did not reach out to us or establish any contact, not even so much as an apology from you, ever. Therefore on March 1, 2023  I decided to make a post in the London and West Jeff Facebook groups to let community members know that you would in fact, not be fixing our yard. The post received over 500 shares and countless comments of previous drivers and customers discussing just how bad ****'s Trucking is. I was even made aware of the ****** ********** ******** which you lost. Sounds like ****'s Trucking is a real stand up company.

We've already had a neighbor assist us in trying to fix our yard. The same neighbor I went to get to try to pull your driver out of our yard with his tractor so he didn't have to call a tow truck. This was never about our yard as accidents happen all the time. Your driver was extremely apologetic about the incident and I assured him, I was not upset with him. The owner (****) of this company never once apologized or took any accountability which tells me everything I need to know about how you do business. Being in business for 40 years means nothing when you have close to 1,000 community members discussing how awful the business is online. Best of luck with ****'s Trucking, go visit your mother sometime.

      Regards,

      ******** ******
