Adopted a dog from a local rescue on March 20, 2023. Rescue provided the limited information that was obtained when the dog was rescued including a vaccination tag from Wheelersburg Animal Hospital. When we came in to see about our new pups previous health history we were told that they could not provide it because of "Dog HIPAA" We didn't want to know about the previous owners who had surrendered the animal, just our pups previous medical history; things like injuries, vaccinations, and such. That information not forthcoming we had to re-establish him (our pup) like they had never seen him before. (22MAR2023) All of his examinations and vaccinations had to be done from scratch. Total for the bill was close to $250. We were told that that he tested positive for Lyme disease (no indication how long he had been positive) and given a $50 bottle of *********** with no more information than was on the bottle. We were told that his Lyme vaccination was a two-part vaccine and that we would need to come back in about 3 weeks to get the second part, that an appointment wouldn't be necessary and that it wouldn't cost any more. We stated that we would be out of the country until about 6 weeks and asked if we would still be in the window for the vaccine then and we were told yes. Fast forward to when we returned and we brought him back in on 10MAY2023, we were told that we would have to start all over and that we had been told wrong. So we started all over with the Lyme vaccine. Cha-ching another $34. I double checked on the date as to when to come back...not two weeks...not four weeks. Three weeks. We had already moved the rest of our veterinary care to another local animal practice as this location also missed a raging ear infection during their health screen; within days of our initial visit he was shaking his head constantly and knowing that we couldn't travel with him like that we took him to another vet. Our poor pup had had a chronic yeast infection in one of his ears and they were surprised it had been missed when we visited this animal hospital. But it is now under control. This last part of the Lyme vaccine was all that was left to have a clean break from Wheelersburg Animal Hospital. So we kept our appointment for today 31MAY2023. We called in and was placed immediately on hold for about 10 minutes, before I had the opportunity to ask if it was okay to bring him in and we were given the go ahead, and we made the drive to Wheelersburg. After about 10 minutes of waiting a vet-tech came to the lobby and asked that I hold my pups head while he gives the second part of the vaccine. A quick prick and it was over. I was called to the counter and told that it would be another $34.00. What I had been told was already paid for, would cost no more, was a lie. It was explained that I simply wouldn't have to pay a vet fee. Why would a pay a vet fee when I didn't see a vet? And why wasn't this fee disclosed before the service was rendered.
