I signed a contract with Ulman Family Construction on October 19th, for roofing repair. 11 weeks later, I have not received services. I've contacted the company by phone, text, e-mail, Thumbtack numerous times. I've been given several estimated start dates that came and went with no shows. The contract states: "If you do not receive the goods or services within 30 days of the date stated in the contract, you may cancel this contract within one year of the contract date." & Ohio law states that it is a deceptive act for a supplier (contractor) to allow 8 weeks to elapse without services being rendered. O.A.C. 109: 4-3-09 However, it is now winter & my time has been wasted to find another roofer, receive a quote when my roof is needing immediate repair pending imminent winter weather. I'm very frustrated as I signed with this company based on many positive reviews online. They have had poor customer service. I've been given the run around. I would really like my roof to be done immediately because it's in desperate need of repair before the winter weather hits, but if I cannot receive a written start date for services signed by the project manager, I will need to cancel this contract. Last contact was received on December 12th. No response received after that. I would like the business to resolve this issue with me, either communicate to me that they need to cancel the contract or provide a definitive start date in writing & meet that start date, otherwise provide a canceled contract if they cannot meet that start date.Customer response

RECEIVED VIA EMAIL BY BBB STAFF MEMBER:
Hi, I've been in contact with them, however they scheduled my roofing job for this week. They said my roofing job is next on their schedule after their break. But they never showed up this week. Weather was okay today in my opinion. They also haven't contacted me today about rescheduling yet. It seems to be the same scenario every time with this roofing company. They've been giving me several start dates for months. I seem to believe them, and then they just don't stay in contact or show up. They aren't supposed to be doing any other work in front of mine. I've been under contract with them since October of last year.

We do our best to get to every job as quickly as possible. We cannot put roofing jobs on when it gets too cold so sometimes there are delays.

You’ve attached a signed contract dated Oct. 19, 2023. Work has begun today Monday, Feb, 12, 2024. Case will not be closed until job is completed & reviewed to my satisfaction adhering to contract terms. Thank you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.Ullman initially did a poor job of the repair to the side of my garage / barn. They had just hammered a few nails into a piece of board laid up against the wall. I could stick my hand underneath the side. That would not have held up and would allow water and animals access to the interior, furthering the rot of the wall and structure. So, I was quite disappointed in that initial work provided for that particular part of the contract. However, upon my complaint, they repaired it much more professionally. I am satisfied at this time with the overall job of the roofing and the garage repair as outlined in the contract. Thank you.
