It was a nice address, so, seeing a sign—2M’s Estate Sale—I stopped to browse the sale in Sapulpa at 2:45 PM on Thursday, 9/28. At 3 PM, the ‘2M’ woman running the showing announced that the sale was closed for the day and everyone should leave immediately. I don’t live far from the sale site, so I returned the next day and found 16 Frankoma political mugs selling for $9 each. I have a collection of these mugs and wanted to purchase a few that I did not have. Just when an associate sales lady told me that on the following day, Saturday, the mugs would be 50% off, I heard an ear-splitting crash, followed by loud screaming. A fellow shopper had tripped and fallen and was left writhing on the floor in pain. An ambulance was called and the 2M woman again ordered everyone out of the house and closed the sale. Saturday morning, on my iPad I made a list of the mugs that I already had as well as those that I wanted to purchase. I arrived at the house at 8:35 AM. When the sale opened at 9, I took my iPad to the mugs, checking the dates on each to find those that I wanted to purchase. Looking over my shoulder and uncomfortably close to me, the 2M woman—without greeting me, introducing herself, or asking if she might help—said in a rude, rough, and scary way: “You creep me out. This is the third time you’ve been here and you haven’t bought anything. Leave now and never come to one of my sales again.” I am a 70-year old professor of architecture, retired after teaching for 30 years in prestigious universities across the country. I am polite, well-dressed, soft spoken. The 2M woman was nasty, rude, belligerent, and venomous: all for no apparent reason whatsoever. I can’t imagine why anyone would have hired her to sell the contents of their house. Her atrocious behavior would be grounds for dismissal in any respectable institution in the nation. I left quietly, not know what she was packing.
