We put a deposit on a lab puppy back on May 5, 2021 (today is September 15, 2021). Our lab passed away from cancer a month prior to that. This specific breeder didn't ask any questions, in fact, the only questions asked were by us. She said to be on her waiting list for puppies she requires $500 deposit, which we sent to her immediately via check, and which she cashed immediately too. The puppies were supposed to be born in four months from May. We also wanted to get a second puppy in September (different breed), and this particular breed does best when the two dogs grow up together as puppies vs getting a second one later. So here comes September, this breeder's dogs are born and supposed to go home in November. We are getting our first dog in a few days. So I mentioned to her via text that we are getting our first dog this month and excited for a lab pup to join our family in Novemberno response. I asked her how many male puppies she got in this litterno response. I asked the next day if her puppies are doing wellno response. This texts were sent over the period of four days btw. Two days later, after my last text, she calls telling me she needed time to think what to tell me. Starts going on and on how if she knew I'm getting another dog, she'd never agreed on offering us a dog, and she is not my mother to tell me what to do, she tells me about million reasons why she doesn't want me to have her dog now, and wants me to wait for another four months which would put us at almost 10 months wait all together. She said she is not here to keep our deposit. All the reasons she mentioned for not having her dog now would not have changed anything in 4 months. So I told her we will wait, and I asked specifically if we will change our mind, will she still refund the deposit. She said yes, of course. I thought it was weird that she wouldn't respond to my texts regardless whether she needed "time to think" or now. So after talking to my husband and again, our first dog won't do well with a new dog in almost a year, we decided to ask for the refund of our deposit. Well, I texted her to request the refund three days ago, which gives her plenty of time to respond, and there's no response. She is doing well according to her Facebook. It's like a little scam going where she tells you not to get a dog just so she can keep the deposit. I would not this breeder. Most breeders we talked to do not ask for deposit until puppies are 6 weeks old and had their health checks. She did not have a waiting list going, we were the FIRST on the waiting list. Our other breeder had 50+ people on her waiting list and even she didn't ask for deposit this early to be on that list. I am completely disappointed in this breeder. Don't recommend her. I think she is con artist.
