On October 16th I took my son to Skin Studio for an appointment with the owner/operator ***************************************, we discussed a few options and had decided to go with the fibroblast plasma pen because she said, it would be a one and done. I was not satisfied with the results and took my son back for a free microneedling session. She then said he would need additional sessions. I paid over $1,000 for the treatment and skincare because she said it would be a one and done. I spoke with her to try to remedy the situation and told her, the reason we went with that service is I because she told me that it would be a one and done, and never said it may not work and she literally told me unless I have it recorded! After further discussion, she offered to do another session or a peel but the attitude I was given made me no longer want her to use her services to remedy the situation. I would not feel comfortable having her do anything else to his skin. I would like to remedy this with a 50% refund of the fibroblast plasma pen service.

      Business response

      06/30/2022

My name is ***************************************** and I am the owner of Skin Studio OKC.

I had a consultation with my patient and her son on 10/15/2021 concerning his scarred face from a history of traumatic acne and also a past history use of accutane.

Pt came to me with no significant daily skin care routine other than an over the counter scrub that can be problematic for scarred skin.

I cover many options for the patient to know what other potential procedures are out there for them to treat their skin issue. Some are services that I offer and many are not. I refer to  plastic surgeons and Dermatologists in the *** metro area who offer more advanced procedures. I normally make notes of these providers and give them to the pt to take home for further reference if they want to reach out to them.

We discussed (per my notes) multiple options:

******* w/ Microneedling (Biostimulator=uses the bodies immunity to build new collagen in the skin) $350-500 per treatment (Pkg of 6 in a year for best outcome( (results can last up to 2 years)

*Morpheus 8 w/ Microneedling (Radiofrequency w/ penetrative needles) swelling/downtime and roughly 1800-2K for a pkg of 3 (results can last up to 18 months)

*Fibroblast Plasma Pen (Biostimulator) (Results can last up to 3 years)

I recommended oral supplements for daily aid in tissue/wound repair; Vitamin D3 & Zinc

With every consultation, I cover (in great detail) the biochemistry involved in wound repair and skin remodeling. Immune function, gut health, nutritional intake, hydration and daily skin care (correct products) are factors for the most optimal outcome.

I covered the biochemistry and mechanism for Fibroblast Plasma Pen . How it stimulates the fibroblasts to build new collagen in the skin. Fibroblast offers a "rejuvination" to the derma and we have to feed, protect and nourish the skin (like growing a garden, we are asking the body to grow new collagen/skin). Actual healing from the procedure takes roughly 7 days & it takes up to 4 months for the final outcome on tissue generation.

I have pts send me daily photos of their healing process as I like to keep eyes on my patients and make sure we do not have complications. If complications arise I can take actions/interventions quickly and offset any further issues. I call and check in with my patients during their week long healing process as well.

Per my notes: During the procedure my patient was very sensitive to the treatment itself and asked his mother to go get him an energy drink out of the car. I stopped my procedure and asked him if he had eaten or drank anything other than his ************** drink and he said no. I told him vehemently that he had to eat food that offers hydration and nutrition to the body for best outcome on skin procedures. He stated he would follow instructions on proper diet. This procedure takes 2.5-3hrs to complete and is done by hand.

I accommodated the patient/mom as per her work schedule would not allow her to take off from work and performed his procedure on a Saturday.  The patient's mother paid for the procedure $800 and purchased $143.42 in skin care as well. He was sent home with a free post treatment skin care kit to use over the next 2 weeks w/ masks as well. (the kit is worth over $100)

Everything proceeded as normal without complications.

No phone calls with complaints or concerns.

In April 2022, I then reached back out to check on the pt status (6 month ck in). Had mom send me pictures of his treated areas. I noticed improvement in the tissue.

I contacted the pts mother and wanted to see him for a microneedling treatment (comp) to stimulate more tissue repair.

I  offered this service which is normally a $225 treatment for free as I wanted to see if we could build & get even better results. He was sent home with skin care and masks from that procedure as well. ($100 value)

I provided this service on 4/12/2022.

I offered to the mother that if she wanted to get further microneedling treatments for her son I would offer it to her for $100 per session not $225. (I understood money was an issue for her and offered her a price break) She was not unhappy or discontent at that time. Nothing of concern or negative was discussed from her in any way. She was friendly & happy throughout the procedure. This procedure takes 1-1.5 hrs to complete.

On 6/23/22 I received a text from my patient's mother stating that she wasn't satisfied with her son's results.

249 days after our Fibroblast procedure.

I immediately called her and attempted to problem solve with an offer to comp a chemical peel and also offered another free microneedling procedure. I discussed (again) diet, skincare and immunity.

She was not receptive to my offer and was argumentative.

The term "one & done" is not something I would say to a patient. It isn't done in medicine.

The skin will show us how much it will improve over time as wounds repair and tissue remodels. Repairing/remodeling skin is a process and takes multiple modalities & sessions (sometimes). I discuss this during every consultation and overkill on information for the patient to fully understand the process and possible outcomes.

It would never be an intention for me to mislead a patient about what a procedure can and can not accomplish.

My goal is to provide the best customer service and to offer the most effective & safest Medical Aesthetic procedures available inside the US.

As an Advanced Aesthetic RN practicing since 2006 this is my first complaint and it is profoundly disappointing to have to write this retort.

I am rejecting this response because:

Her message is full of lies. She did use the words one and done more than once, I even repeated it back to her during our initial visit and she confirmed. She also never said or did half of the things mentioned in the message. She never said anything about the severity of his skin, she said he was young and his skin had time to heal and be yummy! Her words which is creepy also, calling skin yummy. She makes it out like she was ****** thorough and gave us so much information, which she did not. That message was more information than she gave us either time she saw us. I believe this woman takes advantage of people. ****** learned.

      Sincerely,
