We signed a contract with ******** Remodeling on 2022-08-30 to remodel the building we bought to serve as a crepe shop. He was to replace all sheetrock, install vinyl flooring, widen the restroom for ADA *********** build a custom counter with formica countertop, plumb in sinks, and build walls for an enclosed prep area. Work was to start on 2022-09-13 with an estimated completion date of one month. They didn't actually start until 2022-09-19. They were shut down shortly after on 2022-09-26 by the city building inspector for working without a building permit. The contract states the contractor will "obtain and pay for the construction permits needed to complete the project," but the contractor claimed they didn't think the job needed a building permit. The building permit was finally approved on 2022-10-17. The contractor said he had to take on another job while waiting for approval of the building permit, so he did not resume work until 2022-11-14. His new estimate for date of completion was the first week in December. The last day he performed any work was on 2022-11-28. He would text every couple days that he would start working again in a day or two. A day or two would pass, no work, and he would text again that he would start working again in a day or two. Then he stopped replying to texts and answering our calls all together. The last contact we've had from him was a text on 2022-12-07 that he was working on getting the sheetrock over there "right now." We have made multiple attempts to text, email, and leave voicemails and have not heard back from him since. All they have completed is reframing a wall that had significant water damage, demo work removing cabinets and the old sheetrock, and they began hanging sheetrock but have only partially covered one wall and partially covered the ceiling. We have requested a refund less the cost of work already completed but have not heard back.
