We started the process with DC Builders with ******************************* in January of 2020. We would give a deposit to get started and that deposit money goes towards the kit we were purchasing at the time at $83,000 and a $99,000 package deal with the additional upgrades. There is no rush or time limits. After the initial deposits and additional money, we gave DC Builders $20,000, we got the property graded and ready but COVID hit and finding workers and materials was becoming more and more difficult. We sent en email in March, 2021 to **** asking him if we were going to be affected by this recent price changes in the building field and **** sent an email on March 2nd explaining that we have saved an incredible amount of money purchasing the kit when we did it. And that nothing would change because we already technically had purchased the kit by giving them the deposit. On May 20 (one month later) **** sent another email saying he can no longer honor our deal and the prices would go up to $142,000 for the kit with a new package deal of $200,000. Plus, they striped our kit of a lot of important features (like doors and windows) that were part of the deal and removed them from the package entirely. At this point we were already in plan check with the county and this put an end to our project as it became unaffordable to us. Since then, we have been trying to work with DC Builders to keep this alive and not cancel. We requested they let us purchase some of the materials for the kit, they said no, we were told we must purchase the entire kit. Then we requested a redesign for something more affordable and they said they would need more money from us and when we requested to cancel and refund they said they cant give us any money back as this deal was considered delivered even though they never delivered anything. I explained I understand if they took a small percentage from our deposit for a cancellation fee but How can they keep $20,000 and give us nothing back???
