I had a problem which I diagnosed and wrote up a suggested repair. It is a common issue addressed multiple times on the **** F150 and others on ******** After I delivered the van I was called and told I had to have a certified diagnostic charge of $149. Having already delivered the van I agreed to the charge not thinking it would be much more over $150. They called back about an hour later and quoted $350. That included two parts and some vacuum line to do exactly what I had told them needed to be done. While I placed the caller on hold for less than 20 seconds to discuss with my wife, I could hear the caller swearing! I decided Id already basically paid for one or two hours of tech time and another 200 for labor and parts was just outrageous, And said Id just do it myself. As further insult, they had my car from 7:45 AM drop off and didnt call back till I called to pick up an unrepaired car. Question how does it take all day to return a car not being worked on. By the end of the day I no longer had a pick up driver and they offered no assistance, so I had to pick up the next day. I waited till parts ordered arrived, upshot: it took me one hour and 15 minutes to install the parts and complete the repair. I have photos and videos. Total cost equaled $45. Including their $150 diagnostic charge, this ran me about 200 bucks.Additional information from the tech: the problem is a ruptured vacuum reservoir. There is no way to know if there is a ruptured vacuum reservoir without removing the unit from under the fender past the fenders cowling. The problem was a deteriorated vacuum line leading to the vacuum reservoir.Requires removing heater/AC case to access and replace.This was not required in my repair and not suggested by another shop.Recommend plumbing in new vacuum reservoir and check valve and install under the dash somewhere .This is a certified repair?There was nothing wrong with the check valve.
