Hello,The date of this transaction was completed on 7/19/2023.The total amount that I paid for the service was $1743.78.I took my car to this auto shop expecting to leave with the issue fixed and that did not happen. Myself, as well my friend that was in the car with me when the issue happened, both explained in detail what was going wrong. We also explained that we had it quickly diagnosed at an OReillys and told them was the diagnoses was. We also let them know that the check engine light was on and that obviously is part of the reason we were even there to begin with. They explained that they fixed the problem as well as some suspension issues and told me, Youd be fine to drive to ******** now. Im not a mechanic so I took their word for it after having a few lengthy conversations, with owner and staff, to make sure Im spending my money wisely and that I shouldnt just go get a new car. After driving away and getting to my next destination I realized the check engine light was still on and I know thats not right after diagnosing the problem. I then drove to another location not far, and the same issue happened that prompted me to take it to the shop. We then called and spoke with the owner and he told us that She didnt request for us to check that. Meaning do a diagnostic on the check engine light. What???? Thats why I was there! We asked why they didnt just take a few minutes to plug the machine in and actually do the diagnostic check, since that was the issue and he again stated that I didnt request that. Anyone would expect that when you take a car in because theres an engine light on or any light for that matter, they are supposed to start with that and do a diagnostic check to determine the possible cause. My boyfriend of four years was a mechanic and used to do my car work but he passed away last August. I know what a good mechanic is! I feel completely taken advantage of and ripped off!Invoice # ***** Thank you,*****

      Business response

When speaking with ***** and another business owner who happened to be at the shop when ***** dropped off the vehicle, neither of them recall anything being said about the check engine light.  ***** requested several other things to be inspected and repaired.  We completed those tasks. The $1743.78 paid was for those services.  We received a call from a gentleman on her behalf informing us that the check engine light was still on.  We asked him to have ***** bring the vehicle in so we could diagnose the check engine light and fix the related issue.  We offered to do this at no charge to *****.

We do not feel a refund is warranted due to the fact that ***** requested us to perform the services that we completed.  Also, she was never charged for a check engine light diagnostic.  A refund for services never charged would be not be equitable.  We maintain that she is still welcome to bring her vehicle in and we will take care of check engine light issue.

      Thank you,

      Patrick Olsen Auto Repair

I am rejecting this response because:
I had two separate mechanics look at the car first and they checked the diagnostics and told me what the issue was. We took the car in to find out why the check engine light was on and why the car was jerking when accelerating. I asked them to diagnose that issue and that issue alone. I did not request any other repairs to be done but I did accept and pay for the work because I thought that was why the car was jerking. I dont even live in ****** so why would I take it there unless it was an emergency? I had to take it to another shop and they did the proper diagnostic check and fixed the problem and I had to pay another $1400. If I went back to Olsen they would do the diagnostic check for free but would obviously not fix it for free and I didnt want to give them anymore of my money after how they did business with me. Why on earth would they not do what any other shop would do and just do a quick diagnostic as to why the check engine light was on when that is why I took it there in the first place? We clearly had a few conversations about the jerking issue and that the light was on. We even joked with ***** about the fact that I thought it was the transmission light so they absolutely new the light was on and thats why I was there! I was on vacation and my car acted like it was going to break down. I had to borrow a vehicle to finish out the vacation and I still have that vehicle because my car is still in ****** and I live in ****. If they wouldve just fixed the problem that I told them I was there for them none of this would be happening. I asked for a service and I was told it was fixed and that I could drive to ******** now because it was safe. I didnt even get to my next destination before the jerking happened again. The shop that fixed my car did exactly what a business should do! They actually listened to my issues and did their job and didnt lie to me. I mightve needed the work done that Olsen did but theres no way I wouldve done it at that point. Im a single mom, in between jobs and do not have cash to just get my car fixed unless its an emergency. There is not one person that *** talked to about this that is not also in disbelief over the lack of responsibility on Olsens part. Its shocking really.

      Sincerely,
