Our installed microwave quit working. Since it was covered under our 1-year warranty when we bought the house, we figured it was worth fixing. I got a hold of *********************** doing business under the Absolute Appliance Repair and/or Appliance Repairman who was willing to look at it on a Saturday. Instead of an actual business he just has a generic answering service that schedules appointments for him. They wanted a credit card up front for the $95 diagnostic fee, but said they would not charge if I ended up hiring him. He came over, May 6, 2023, unhooked the control panel, then plugged it back in. It started working immediately, but he said I still needed a new control panel. His estimate was $569.29, ****** for the control panel (which he needed up front) and $285 for labor (including the $95.) I wrote him a check for $******, which he immediately cashed. He said the part might take a week to arrive. Then, 10 days. Then, maybe 2 weeks, then, maybe longer. On May 9 he charged my card for the $95. I called him up and told me to cancel it, suspecting a scam, and he said he couldn't return my money. He's probably not even licenced. It's only a microwave, so it's not a big deal. And now it works just fine. We have another microwave on the counter, just in case we need one. He can keep the $95. But he needs to write me a check for $******. If he has actually ordered a part online and pre-paid, then he can just cancel that order and they will refund him. In any case, I don't think he ever intends on following through.

      Business response

Hello ***********************. This is ****, appliance repair tech that worked on your microwave. I represent Absolut Appliance Repair. I do understand your concerns as level of scams through the roof nowadays. But, nevertheless, I am an independent contractor, I am licensed, bonded and insured and obviously pay taxes. I've been in business for over 6 years and never scammed anyone. As per our conversation at your house we diagnosed an issue with control board on your microwave which at some point stopped feeding power to crucial components of your microwave. You were advised of course of actions:" we either leaving your microwave the way it is (since it started working)and you will continue using it until it fails again or we can replace control board", which acted up for some unknown reason since no failures were detected within internal components. **************** preferred to replace control board. I made a call to part store to inquire information for component ETA which I was promptly advised, would take 7 to 10 business days(local warehouse said they have zero nationwide, it's factory order). **************** was informed with the time frame to get parts in. On 8th or 9th day since initial service ***** called and asked to cancel order. As a contractor I can't process cancellations for factory orders since those parts are not returnable(which means I would get stuck with costly part which I might never be able to use or resell). According to our written agreement we do not refund for parts and materials since cases like this are frequent, but,  I was willing to go forward and attempted to cancel order. In our conversation over the phone I explained that I've processed part order cancellation and am waiting for response from part store. As soon as I processed cancellation and got refund I wrote a check in the amount of ****** dollars (which I initially collected by check as down payment for part ) and mailed it over via certified mail. By the way when you take your car to mechanic they always charge down payment for parts and I do not get all that fuss about "he immediately cashed it" of course I immediately deposited it, since I had to pay for the part right away. I work as fast as I can, trying to provide fastest turn around time for repairs. *****,  keep in mind that every business has a set process and we always rely on warehouses, suppliers etc. And unfortunately supply shortage is still here.  I think I went above and beyond to make you happy unfortunately did not work this time. Thank you for your business. I've attached copy of the invoice, check and letter. Have a good one.
