I am the buyer of a 2020 ****** Leaf SL Plus, ***# ***************** that EV Rides LLC sold through auction on May 3rd, 2022. According to the *** number, it should have had a 62kWh battery, but it had, instead, a 24kWh from a ~2014 ****** Leaf model. It appears that EV Rides LLC has been engaging in deceptive practices. This company buys cars from insurance companies, removes the battery and other components, then charges the buyer of the upgraded car for a new battery. The car is then sold on a blind auction with a lower quality battery that is incompatible with a 2020 ****** *********** model.EV Rides LLC sells the car as is, not as was, without publishing a disclaimer that the vehicle may not have the battery its *** number claims it has. Due to this, the size of the bid that buyers put forward is affected. EV Rides LLC is currently double billing for the car, as it charges both the recipient of the 62kWh, and the would-be buyer of the totaled car.EV Rides LLC takes deception to the next level by swapping a large battery for a small one and adding spacers to make it look like the original. EV Rides LLC offers customers the chance to upgrade their cars for an extra *****k dollars, as advertised on their ********** posts. They even go as far as to connect all the cabling associated to the car (charging, heating and communications) to the smaller battery and properly secure it before putting the battery coverings, nuts and holders back in place. This makes the deception almost impossible to detect until the battery is removed.EV Rides LLC takes advantage of the technical aspect that the car's computer still stores the data related to the previous battery, such as its state of health and the state of charge when it was removed. This is because the computer cannot communicate with the replaced battery, so the error code P3102 (battery replaced error) will remain and the old information will stay, adding to the company's deception.
