On July 1, 2022, as part of an industry-wide review of CBD businesses in our service area, Better Business Bureau contacted CBD Beauteconcerning the following advertising claims found on their website, https://cbdbeaute.com/:
- “THAT CBD Oil Chill Out formula is ideal for Dry skin, Bruising, Stiffness, and soreness.”
- “THAT Tincture Motivate formula is ideal for Mood, Stiffness, and soreness.”
- “THAT Tincture Peppermint Alleviate formula is ideal for Mood, Stiffness, and soreness.”
- “THAT Tincture PET formula is ideal for Stiff joints, Healthy coat.”
- "The chronic sore back and muscle stiffness that had plagued her for years were improved and she seemed to sleep better, as well, all contributing to an elevated sense of well-being. When she stressed her body with hiking at elevation, she noted that she had better stamina and less fatigue with a quicker recovery. To put it bluntly, she was sold on CBD!"
- "CBD products have gained immense popularity in health and wellness circles thanks to their natural support of our endocannabinoid system (ECS)".
BBB requested that CBD Beaute review its advertising and provide substantiation based on reliable, recent, competent testing for each of the health claims made and to discontinue any advertising that is in violation of FDA and FTC mandates for this industry.
Despite written requests, as of December 12, 2022, CBD Beaute has not responded to BBB’s request for revisions and clarification in its advertising.
Advertisements should be truthful, sincere offers to sell. Advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made and should be able to provide that substantiation upon request. All advertising that may mislead or deceive consumers should be avoided.
Claims relating to performance and results should be backed up by reliable evidence.
Claims that relate to tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service can be used when the advertiser has substantiation. An example of a claim requiring substantiation would be "#1 car sales in the city".
