Feb 23, 2022, I called James Sullivan. We needed a fence installed and he quoted $2,500. We paid him $1,250 on March 9th, half up front even though he said we didnt need to. Due to our struggle to remove the concrete and rotted posts of the old fence, we were not ready by March 20th, when he could do it. We let him know and we would reach out when we had everything ready. Thursday, June 16th, we called to let him know we were ready. We understood that he couldn't get to us for a bit. July 11th, we reached out to see if he had an idea on how long it will be, and he said he's been busy. Aug 18th, we reached out and got no response. Sept 23rd, we reached out to no response. Sept 27th, James said he would try to get to us by the end of Oct. Oct 19th, we asked for an update, and James said he's ready to do it at the end of next week or the beginning of the following week (Thurs Oct 26 through Wed Nov 2). James came to check out the job again on Oct 25th. He then told us we need to dig the holes for him, buy more material and another pallet of concrete mix (in addition to what he had us buy in March) but said he could buy it and we could pay him back, which we declined to have him buy any material. Friday, Oct 28, James said he could do it on Monday, but he confused us with another job he was doing and then told us we would be "end of next week." We told him ours needed done when he told us he would do it because we were leaving for 2 weeks on Nov 3rd or we were going to have someone else do it. James asked if we had everything, we replied yes. He didn't come and did not communicate in any way, so on Nov 2nd at 2:05 PM we told him to refund us. At which point he told us there were no refunds because we didn't follow through with our end and messed up his schedule twice, then added he would refund us $600 of the $1,250. We have attempted to contact him several times, and we still have yet to see any money back after him not doing any work or buying any material.Customer response

We hired Roofing in the Gorge, James Sullivan Construction, to add to and fix our existing backyard fence for $3600. He completed most of it on 3/29/22 but returned in early August (unknown date as we weren't notified until after the fact) to place the gate. Since the original fencing was placed we contacted him numerous times about our concern that the portion of fencing that he cut the gate into was now unstable. This instability was new and very unsafe given it's location next to a steep hill. We left several texts, phone messages and he never responded until I sent an email on 9/20/22. After a series of emails he agreed to return but never did. I have done a lot of landscaping on the steep slope next to this fence and it was never unstable until he cut in the gate. It is now so unstable that if you were to lean on the fencing while walking along the steep slope, you would easily fall. While I agree he did not place that fence, only cut into it to place the gate. He must have done something to change the stability of that fence. Plus, IF it had ever been unstable we would have had him fix it when we had him fix other areas of our fencing. IF it was unstable already, he is negligent since he never pointed it out or addressed it.
