6 months ago I signed up for digital access for Beaver County Times 6 months for a $1.00. The bank card that I used at that time has since expired. When I received my new card I didn't update new info because I didn't want to renew subscription. I didn't call to cancel subscription because I thought ( they don't have my new card info so it wont renew). On May 2. 2024 I seen a charge for $14.99 on my bank statement (Gannett Newspaper). I called Newspaper to inquire about charge. I was told it was a renewal charge. I asked how they got my new card info they said my bank. ( I also canceled subscription at that time). Was told it was canceled and I wouldn't be charged anymore. I called my bank to inquire how Newspaper got my card info. Was told if a merchant is signed up for something (don't remember the exact term) they can get your card info.(how is that legal?). So today 5-10-24 I got charged another $14.99 for renewal of Newspaper. I called and said that this is supposed to be canceled. Didn't get a reason as to why I was charged again. I was told I will get a refund for $14.99 in 15 days. Meanwhile this charge caused me to bounce. Now I have to pay insufficient funds fee. I would appreciate refund of $29.98. I'm on a fixed income it's very difficult to make ends meet. I don't think the Newspaper should be allowed to do whatever their doing with people's card info. Hope someone puts a stop to this. Thanks
