I am a 72 yr old single woman and have been taking my car there for years and recently had a horrible experience with Ed the owner. My starter was not working, I had my vehicle towed there and told them it was the starter. Ed gave me a price for over $700!!! Then proceeded to make comments that I should have never sold my old vehicle that he had quoted over $2000 to repair. I simply asked him if I bought one somewhere else, if he would do the labor to put it in. He flipped out telling me he won't put parts in from another place and hung up on me!! Ed's wife called me back and said I need to come pay my bill and have my car towed elsewhere. Apparently Ed ran a diagnostic test without my permission (even though I knew it was the starter) and forced me to pay $72 for them to give my keys back. So of course I paid the bill and had my car towed off their lot. Found out the starter wasn't even bad, the connection was loose and dirty. Obviously Ed didn't even look over the starter.

       Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:  in Ed's response they are saying all kinds of good things as too how they checked everything on my car and answered all my questions.  I am not judging their ability as a mechanic.  They are missing the whole point of this complaint.   First they said they did a diagnostic test on my car. out in their parking lot   What did that test tell them?    If they had taken it inside their garage they may have noticed that the starter was loose and the wires were dirty, but instead they started looking for a starter on a Sunday.  They also commented that I should have kept my other car.  I believe it's my decision, not theirs to trade my 13 year old car with 160,000 miles on it instead of them fixing it and costing me between $1,000-$2,000.   I already put over $3,000 into that car over three years.   I never said I should have kept that car.  I am a single 72 year old and have a limited social security income.  I ask questions like anyone else would.  All these notices that they have should be posted on a wall not on a 4-41/2 foot high counter that a 5 foot person can't see or read.   I was never told countless times over and over again.  This is where they are missing my point.  Ed's wife admitted in her statement that Ed was upset with me because I asked the question if I could buy the part at **** ****. and would they install it to save me money.   They told me if I can buy a part, then I should be able to install that part.  Then she neglected to say that ** was yelling at me and then he hung up the phone on me.  Then Ed made his wife call me back and tell me to tow my car away since I won't be having them do any work on my car.  This was their decision at that point, not mine.   Before I had my car towed, I had to pay for the diagnostic test to get my keys  back.   I did have my car towed to another garage and they checked the starter and cleaned some of the wires.  My car started right up and I didn't need a starter after all.   Now the whole point is how rude and demeaning he was to me as a customer   A good businessman should not yell, talk down to customers or hang up on them when they ask a question.  No I will not go back to that garage and be treated that way.  I think I should get an apology and a refund for the diagnostic test that was taken outside of the garage that didn't give them a correct reading.    I was treated bad for asking a question.   It was their decision to not work on my car.

      Regards,
