G &J Waterproofing was retained by my wife and me to replace and waterproof our basement walls. They represented themselves to be experts in that work. During the process of the work, their owner/principal, Harry W******* insisted that the original scope of the project needed to be expanded significantly for G & J to ensure/warrant that the basement would be waterproof. Relying upon *** ********* *expertise” we authorized that work to be done. We are now left with a mess. The basement walls leak, the brand new hardwood floor in the portion of the home Mr. W****** insisted needed to be rebuilt from the ground up is buckling and must be replaced and other related problems. In short, we are left with an unlivable mess. I’ve since learned that Mr. W****** has virtually no expertise in waterproofing, foundation work or residential construction in general. My wife and I have paid G & J Waterproofing approximately $120,000 and we are left with a mess.Business response

The owner of G & J Waterproofing, Mr. Harry W******* has been in the waterproofing/foundation repair business for over twenty years, which includes fourteen years with his business G & J Waterproofing.
The scope of the contractual work for this project was substantial. While a substantial amount of work was completed, the price for the work was acceptable to and ultimately paid by *** ******* No one forced *** ****** to accept our proposals (as he did so voluntarily).
As for the complaint about the leak, this was not because of any work that G & J Waterproofing did incorrectly. Instead, there was historical rain and flooding within the area at this time, which was an Act of God. Nonetheless, G & J Waterproofing responded promptly to this emergency complaint within 15 minutes. When G & J Waterproofing arrived at the scene, we took extraordinary steps during this emergency situation of installing an interior drainage system (along with a sump pump), which we have received no compensation for along with other emergency remedial measures. Based upon our contract/warranties, we are of the opinion that no further work must be completed – at this time – with respect to this “leak” despite *** ******’s continued insistence that more work should be done.
As for the alleged replacement of the brand-new hardwood floor, this has nothing to do with G & J Waterproofing. *** ****** conveniently leaves out the fact that his home is undergoing substantial construction work (by contractors that have nothing to do with G & J Waterproofing). The floor buckling is, unfortunately, the likely product of these subcontractors placing heavy debris and equipment on the flooring, which has nothing to do with G & J. G & J reserves its rights to inspect the flooring, before it delivers its final opinion. However, *** ****** has stopped responded to G & J’s communications so that we can appropriately and fully inspect the flooring situation.
Unfortunately, working with *** ****** has been an extremely difficult process as he has personally attacked Mr. W****** through repeated false statements, and comments that Mr. W****** has subjectively found to be disgusting (without going into any further detail).Initial Complaint

Contract was signed on June 9, 2021. Work was to be completed from Aug. 9 through Aug. 24. Contract stipulates: French drain and sump pump in basement storage room; Install electric outlet for sump pump; Remove retaining walls and rebuild with Versalok; Overlay front porch with sealer and stone pavers; Install vinyl railing; Remove front sidewalk and front steps and repour. Space does not allow for all details of contract. Total cost is $24,000. I paid $7,000 down. The work is far from complete. French drain was open and stank for 26 days; No outlet installed for pump, yard and plants are torn up for weeks, huge pile of debris in driveway, front steps are demolished and unusable. I must sit in driveway to wait for mail and other deliveries. Company does not respond to emails and phone calls. Harry stated delays are due to rain. Many days without rain and no workers at all. Company does not retain skilled labor and can not complete work competently in timely manner. Thank you IBusiness response

This is unfortunately untrue. We are currently working at this property as we speak. On the contract that she sent over we have completed the French drain and sump pump in basement storage room, Remove retaining walls we are in the middle of rebuilding, Remove front sidewalk and front steps, these are out and formed and getting ready to pour the steps and sidewalk. The work is not far from being complete, this is all outside work and she has been told numerous times we can not work with concrete or block in the rain. Pittsburgh has rained an incredible amount. And there is nothing we can do about this.. we placed her plant's in the backyard the first week as she asked.the debris in the front is cleanfill and gravel in which is for the wall, that is material. steps are demolished because she is having them repoured. She knew that the steps were coming out. She signed the contract for this. I respond to all emails and calls from her. And have crews at her house working numerous days a week. She has never mentioned to us about canceling. In fact my guy there today said she was extremely happy with the work done.
