Van Fleet Services was contracted to do electrical work and remodel a bathroom. Work was to begin on Friday, June 17 and finish by 6/24. On 6/17, Van Fleet was scheduled to arrive by 10 am but didn’t arrive almost 11 am. Van Fleet worked 1.5 hours before calling it a day. Scheduled to return 6/20 at 8:00 am but arrived closer to 9:30 am. Worked until 5 pm. Scheduled to return at 8:00 am on 6/21 but didn’t arrive until after 9:00. Brought another sub contractor, Al, to do bathroom work around 1:30 pm. Van Fleet left at 5:30, Al left at 6 pm. When Van Fleet left Tuesday I was told he would arrive around 8 am on Wednesday. Received email at 9:53 Wednesday morning indicating a 12:00 arrival. No one arrived. Wednesday was canceled with the understanding that work would resume first thing Thursday morning. Received text at 8:15 am on 6/23 indicating supplies were being purchased and they were on there way. Another text came through at 10:15 indicating the same. At noon I received a text informing me that Van Fleet was tired due to late nights and needed to eat and take a nap, and that he would arrive around 3 pm. I informed him that I did not want work starting that late and to cancel work for the day. I received a text at 4:15 that he was at my house ready to work. At that point I made the decision to fire Van Fleet. Van Fleet collected $3000 as a down payment. He billed $750 to install 2 new ceiling fans, completing neither, leaving switches/ wires exposed. He billed $250 for a generator outlet, but in doing the work he destroyed one end of the generator plug. His sub contractor removed a toilet that had already been drained, but left it sitting on a bedroom floor. His sub contractor also capped shower water lines, but due to lack of preparation created a watery debris filled mess in the kitchen located underneath the bathroom. For all of this Van Fleet believes he is entitled to retain $1500 of the initial deposit given to him. I disagree.
