MHB On October 12, 1023, Boswell Brothers Paving sent a salesman to my elderly Father's door. They told him they had a job they planned to do nearby, but for some unknown reason they could not complete. They had paving materials that would be wasted if they could not find somewhere to offload it. They offered him deal to pave his 300 foot long driveway, and gave him a price of $400/100ft. There was no explanation of how the square footage of the drive would be calculated and no true price for the end result. They told him there would be no need for money upfront and that he would not be obligated to pay if he were dissatisfied. Seemed like a way to charm an older person into trusting them, which he did. Luckily I arrived prior to work commenced and I was able to keep them from proceeding. They offered him no contract, no estimate for what the total cost would be, details about the material thickness or how the area would be prepared. Also--no intention for properly regrading his driveway or creating the proper base for laying asphalt. I witnessed that several of their trucks were lined up, waiting in the neighborhood. Drivers of the large dump trucks were non English speaking, so we needed to wait for the "boss" to arrive. When David showed up a few minutes later, he realized that between myself & my brother who arrived on scene in his work truck with our family's local Excavating company's logo on it, the job was a no-go and he and the crew hightailed it out of our Dad's drive.
