Cubler Brothers agreed to: remove all old existing insulation underneath the house/inside the crawl space; place vapor barriers; clean out the crawlspace from debris/dirt/pieces of insulation in crawlspace; spray foam insulation cracks/holes/gaps on the foundation; dry lock bilco door entrance due to retained water at the entrance of bilco door. The work took 3 days, began 10/14/21, ended 10/18/21. Both brothers arrived around 10am and left by 3pm. We checked the crawlspace & found these issues: crawlspace floor was left with dirt/pieces of insulation/other materials; one row left empty with no new insulation (could see subfloor); many places still had old insulation so new insulation was not installed as they covered old insulation with vapor barrier; dry lock never installed. Workers came back on 10/22/21 to address areas of concern and said its all fixed. Husband/I went back in crawlspace, the area where there was no insulation, still had no insulation, crawlspace floor still dirty, some areas still had old insulation covered by vapor barrier thus old insulation not replaced with new insulation. Workers came back on 11/01/21 and said its fixed & left. Upon checking that one row still did not have any new insulation, crawlspace floor was still not cleaned, dry lock not installed. Worker (****) came back on 11/17/21 to put insulation in this one row and left. Other issues still remain. We paid $4200 for labor/materials. We were charged labor for 3 workers when only 2 workers did majority of the work; we were charged 24 hrs labor when initial work took about 15 hours. We paid for the 3rd person when the 3rd person was not onsite. What we paid & what was used, we clearly see that not all the materials we paid for were used on the project: dry lock/locktite & insulation hangers never used so now insulation is not being supported by insulation wires. ******************************** brothers are ignoring us, not responding to texts or returning calls or showing interest to come back

      Customer response

      11/30/2021

Good morning Better Business Bureau Specialist,

I filed a complaint (#********) last Tuesday, 11/23/21 and since then have not heard back from anyone from BBB.

Due to limited spacing provided to file my initial complaint, there was not enough space for me to add what BBB need to know in detail about my experience with this company.

I have respectfully requested for a refund from *******.

Now I am requesting BBB to assist me as I am requesting for a FULL REFUND from this company.

******* recently stated that **** Cubler should not have taken this job if he could not perform it fully and **** Cubler was having girlfriend issues, which was most likely why he was angry.

I said to ******* that **** should not have taken the job if he could not perform it fully and Bills personal issues should not affect the quality and efficiency of work for customers.

Today is Monday, 11/29. Since ******* Cublers last text message on 11/21, I have texted her 3 times and to-date I have not received a response from *******.

      Please see below:

We hired Cubler Brothers Paining and Restoration to redo our crawlspace.

The main project we requested and all of which were agreed upon by the 2 Cubler brothers that they would perform, were:

      -          Remove all old existing insulation underneath the house/inside the crawl space.

      -          Place vapor barriers.

      -          Clean out the crawlspace from debris/dirt/pieces of insulation or anything else that was on the floors of the crawlspace.

      -          Spray foam insulation on cracks/holes/gaps on the foundation

      -          Dry lock the bilco door entrance due to retained water at the entrance of the bilco door/before entering the crawlspace.

The work took 3 days, began on Thursday, 10/14/21, into Friday, 10/15/21 and ended on Monday, 10/18/21.

Both brothers arrived at the house around 10am and left by 3pm.

The first 2 days, the 2 brothers worked, there was no 3rd person on the job.

On the final day, I noticed a 3rd person at 3pm when I met the brothers outside of my house, when it was time to do a final payment.

We were charged for 24 hours of labor for 3 people at $35/hour for 3 workers when ONLY 2 people did almost all the work.

Husband and I went inside the crawlspace after the work was finished to take a look at all the work we requested and which were agreed upon to be done.

      We found these issues:

      -          the crawlspace floor was left behind with dirt, pieces of insulation and other materials

      -          one row was left empty and was missing new insulation as we could see the subfloor

      -          many places still had old insulation so new insulation was not installed and they covered the old insulation with vapor barrier

      -          there are places where the vapor barrier is just hanging

We made multiple contacts with ******* requesting the workers to come back and fix the areas we were concerned about as these were noticeable and we paid for these work to be done.

The workers came back on 10/22/21 to address the areas we were concerned about, they said they fixed these and left without saying a word. We requested to let us know when the work was done, so we can go back in and check while the workers were there but without any acknowledgment, they left.

Husband and I went to the crawlspace to look at the work again.

The area where there was no insulation at all, still had no insulation. The crawlspace floor still dirty, some areas still had old insulation covered by vapor barrier thus old insulation were not replaced with new insulation.

Since then, we made multiple contacts with ******* again and finally she reached out. We again stated that the work was still not done right nor completed and requested for the workers to come back and to complete and correct it.

The workers came back on 11/01/21 and we dont know what was done because that one row still did not have any new insulation. The crawlspace floor was still not cleaned. The dry lock was never installed on the area we requested.

We contacted ******* again and again multiple times, she finally reached out and said that **** will stop by to put new insulation in that one row that they did not have any new insulation in. Note: This row previously had old insulation which they took out but never replaced it with new insulation and they left it without any insulation (where we could see the subfloor). **** came on 11/17/21 for about 15 minutes to put insulation in this one row and left. While **** was standing beside the crawlspace entrance, my husband went down to the crawlspace to check so he could let **** know but **** just left my husband while he was in the crawlspace without saying a word to him. **** was angry and in a bad mood with my husband. When **** left, again the crawlspace floor was still not cleaned, dry lock was never installed on the area we initially requested.

We have requested ******* to stop by to see the work that was done since the beginning. ******* has been stating for the last 2 weeks now that she would stop by, gives me a date as to when she will stop by, but then when I reached out to confirm what time she would stop by, she does not respond to my text messages nor answer my phone calls. We have been patiently waiting for the last 2 weeks and giving up our weekends for ******* to stop by with the workers, but they are not responding to us, nor calling us, nor stopping by to see the issues and to resolve it. My text messages and phone calls have not been answered nor returned.

We have made uncountable attempts to reach out to ******* since the findings of various issues and materials not used on property, requesting that when the workers come to let us know so we can get in the crawlspace while they are onsite to check and let them know or to address our concerns if we see anything. The 3 times they came (10/22, 11/01, 11/17), they just came and left without saying a word or acknowledging that they are done.

We paid $4200 for the labor and materials. $2100 was paid before the work began and $2100 on 10/18.

      Labor:

The first 3 days, the 2 brothers only spent about 15 hours on the job = 5 hours for 3 days = 10am to 3pm.

The final day, Freds son was onsite and we only saw his son when **** came to let us know that they were done and asked for his final payment of $2100.

The 3rd person (Freds son) only showed up on the site on the final day, not during the first 2 days when the work began.

******* charged us labor for 3 men when only 2 men did majority of the work and charged us labor for 24 hours when the initial work was done in about 15 hours.

They were very dishonest in their labor charges and charged us so much more money than what we should have originally paid. We paid for the 3rd person when the 3rd person was not onsite.

To recap: The first 2 days, the 2 brothers worked, there was no 3rd person.

On the final day, Freds son (3rd person) was seen at 3pm when I met the brothers outside of the house.

We were charged for 24 hours of labor for 3 people at $35/hour for 3 workers when only 2 people worked majority of all the work.

      Materials:

Based on what we paid and what we can clearly see was used for the project, we did get all the materials installed nor used on our project that we paid for. We were charged so much more money for all the materials and not all of these were used on our project. The dry lock/locktite and insulation hangers were never used in this project and now the insulation is not supported by the insulation wires. They charged us for more quantity of materials, over-priced each material and kept the money and all the extra materials for their own personal use.

There was so much of dishonestly in how the pricing was done for both labor and materials.

I asked ******** few times where is human morality and integrity in this situation.

Now ******* and the Cubler brothers are ignoring us, not responding to text messages, not calling us back and not coming back to fix the issues that still remain open and to clean the crawlspace floors.

We paid for the work discussed, they agreed to do all the work, we wanted to be satisfied with the work done, we made uncountable contacts and still this is not resolved to date, 11/23/21.  They are making excuses after excuses and not coming back to resolve all the issues, which should not have been the case as they initially agreed to do all the work before the work began.

We were simply robbed and lied to by this company.

We are extremely exhausted as we have waited patiently for the workers to make corrections, waiting patiently for ******* to stop by the house, keep reaching out and no response and now we are being ignored completely as no one is contacting us anymore.

We would like to receive back from this company 100% of the money we paid because now we will need to get another contractor to redo the entire work from the scratch, which was not done accurately and properly by this company from the beginning. Had all the work been done accurately and properly during the first 3 days, they would not have had to come 3 more times and still not get it right after being here at 3 additional times.

Below are screen shots of the work scope and cost for labor and materials:
