      Business response

** *******'s car was dropped off for repair because it would not start due to  a dead battery. No contact information was left with the vehicle. We removed the battery and slowly charged it but it could no longer be restored to a usable level. When the customer called he was notified that we needed to install a new battery to continue to diagnose the other issues.  At this point a new battery was installed. See attached invoice.  With the new battery installed the brake lights remained on constantly because the brake light switch was defective. see invoice

We installed a new aftermarket brake switch manufactured by ******** ***********. This switch did not function properly and we received another from  our parts supplier that did not work correctly either . After talking to ************* Autoparts Warehouse they indicated  that they have had issues with certain brake switches and recommended that we use a **** OEM ( Original Equipment  Manufacturer ) switch. We installed the OEM switch and the brake light issue was resolved. See attached invoices

The next issue was that the automatic transmission shifter would not come out of Park. The problem here is that a lockout solenoid will not allow the shifter to be placed into gear until the brake is applied. Once the brake is applied a solenoid releases the shifter mechanism. However because the original defective brake switch kept power to the brake lights, it also kept power to the shifter solenoid and burned it out. This solenoid is not a heavy duty solenoid because it is only used in very short cycles when the shifter is in the Park position and the brake is pressed. Once the shifter is no longer in Park position the solenoid is no longer energized when the brake is pressed. See electrical diagrams

In order to repair the shift mechanism it was necessary to purchase a used shifter assembly because the solenoid, nor the assembly, was any longer available from ****. The used shifter assembly resolved the shifter problem. See attached invoice and illustrations part # *****

At this point the customer had requested that we go over the vehicle for PA inspection. On the November 19, 2021 invoice the notes indicate that a control arm with a ball joint & one tire would be needed to pass PA inspection. See attached repair invoice.

The customer picked up his vehicle and had to return because the battery we replaced had  frozen and had to be replaced under warranty. At this time he requested that we replace the control arm with a ball joint.

The control arm with a ball joint was replaced. See attached invoice

Then, in the latter part of February we received several phone calls complaining about the repairs.  On February 21st he called requesting driver license information on employees from an employee. I took his next two calls on February 22nd and told him to come in and I would come to some  type of compromise with a refund to address his concerns. He indicated that he would only accept  a complete refund. During the calls he discussed several personal stressful  issues in a passive aggressive manner that were affecting him. I listened and then told him if he wanted a refund he should stop in when I  was here and I would work with him to a reasonable resolution of his concerns.  He has not contacted us directly since then.

        Thank you, Walter
