In May of 2023 I signed a contract and gave Rankin Renovations (Jason R*****) $27800 as a down payment to have the him build a garage and pour concrete pad and driveway after tearing down an existing structure and concrete driveway. He finished demo of the building and driveway concrete as well as removed topsoil and prepared site for the build. Then at the end of June poured concrete pad before leaving for his vacation over the 4th of July and this is where the major issues began. During the pour the concrete got away from him and his 2 helpers. Who were inexperienced with concrete as they were two teenagers and himself. I have pics of the concrete being horribly finished and uneven as well as being unusable for building on. He acknowledged this to me and said he was gonna have to eat the concrete cost. I agreed at the time and we went out separate ways. I thought I would receive money back after this and have not. At this point I have made attempts to contact him with very little response and zero financial results. My initial thoughts when contacting him were to pay for the work he’d done and be refunded part of the money back. Now at this point I have had to pay to have this garbage concrete removed and would also like this cost added to my refund. In total I am looking to get $16771.28 back. I feel like this is more than fair enough for the quality of work and also just the failure to do as promised in the build. I’m hoping to not have to end up in legal actions as this will only add to the costs and monies I will require back. I’d also like to understand how this individual was going to finish the build and where my money went that was given in the beginning. At this time I am not seeking any money for the inconvenience it has created as I have had to live all summer with no garage and no driveway. I’ve also borrowed more money in order to hire another capable contractor to do the work.
