I am co-director of a youth sports organization. Over the past 12 years, we have operated out of the facility that is now XL Sports. There have been 3 ownership changes, but we have been dealing with the same management team for the past 7-8 years. After 12 years, and close to $800,000 spent for court rental in that facility, we were lied to for 5 months about our next contract. We emailed management on 1.31.22 to begin working on our court rentals and contract for the 2022-2023 season, which begins in August. We were told they would be working on their court time, as they were beginning to map out their internal programming. This request for a contract went on for 5 months - in person, over email, over text message, etc...Every time, we were told that our court time contract was coming, they just needed to finalize internal programming. Throughout the process we had heard rumors they sold all of our court time to a competitor of ours, who was losing access to the facility they leased from due to an upcoming closure. We also asked them about the rumor, and were told in writing they did not sell the court time to our competitor, and we would be receiving a contract proposal soon. Finally, in May the management team asked to schedule a zoom to go over the contract. A minute into the call we were told they were not renewing our contract, and did indeed give all of our court time to a competitor. This competitor has been trying to put us out of business for years. While contractually and legally, there was nothing they did that was wrong. However, the unethical manner they handled it should give others concerns. We were lied to for 5 months, until the could work out all the details of cutting us out and going with a competitor who more than likely overpaid to get us out. In addition, by dragging this on, it made it very difficult for us to pivot and find another facility. Unethical, immoral, and disgusting business practices.
