Hello we appreciate your letter with details but we disagree with this. We do not take deposits on any jobs, this roof was installed years ago and the homeowner claims damage to the siding and house. The roof does not interfere with the siding or gutters. The homeowner is upset we couldn’t get out the next day. We are trying our best to give every customer the same respect and courtesy. We respect each clients time and we are going in order to take care of each client. Again we do not take deposits on any roofing jobs and our clients do not pay until completely satisfied. We will reach out to the client and see if we can help him out thank you and God bless

Penn-Ohio roofing company replaced a portion of our roof on February 15, 2024. We paid in full on the day of install. A first leak was found on February 22nd and luckily resolved with no interior damage. On March 6th, 2024, a second leak was discovered when a significant amount of water began trickling out of an exterior doorframe into the house. The roofers did promptly show up to investigate and found that the flashing that they had installed around one of our exterior skylights was improperly installed, causing leaking into the ceiling. It is important to note that the flashing was the cause of the leak, NOT the skylight itself (the business disclaims warranty on previously installed skylights). The cause of the leak was repaired by the roofers about a week later. We do believe that the leaking has stopped. However, the leak caused a significant amount of damage to our interior drywall between the skylight & door. My husband has since been in touch with Gary many times to see about getting this damage fixed; despite being initially responsive and promising to have their contractor come out to repair the damage, they are now attempting to claim that the damage (a result of poor exterior workmanship) is not theirs to repair. We want the drywall/area restored to its original condition as it had NO damage prior to the faulty flashing installation.

Good Morning, we appreciate the the chance to respond to this complaint and we take all complaints very serious here at Penn Ohio. This is very clear and straight forward. We do have contracts and control in place. The contract clearly states :there is no warranty on skylights unless the skylights are replaced at the time of the new roof installation." The contract will be sent over via attachment. All claims are made on a actual cash value basis as well. The homeowner clearly states it was a issue with the skylights numerous times. We can't use old flashing on a skylight. Again please read the contract again and I think you will understand this is something we cant control and it is clearly in our contract. Gary also did come to an agreement to help out with the repairs and reimburse money for the repairs to the drywall out of the kindness of our hearts. Thank you and God Bless.

On 8-24-2023, I signed a contract for Penn Ohio to complete a full roof job on a commercial property I own in Franklin, PA. I was also having other work done on the property. On the day the roof job was supposedly completed, the contractor doing the other work contacted me to say that from his eye, the job had several problems. He sent pictures, and it did. I contacted the crew chief and the owner of the roofing company. The crew chief stated he would look at the job and make things right. The owner got angry. I decided to have the roof inspected. The inspection report found many problems. I sent the report to Penn Ohio. They threatened to sue me. The crew chief contacted later me and wanted to "work things out." He stated that the roofing company disagreed with part of the inspection, and that the work that was not done was not part of a full roof job, although I have had several opinions to the contrary. He no longer wanted to make things right, but wanted to sell me the unfinished work. I told him I would pay half the cost of the original roof agreement, or put the money in escrow, but that I wanted to get a third, objective opinion to resolve the conflicts between the inspection report, and the roofers own opinion. He agreed. But, that night the owner emailed me threatening to sue again. So, other than hiring an attorney, I am not sure how to resolve this issue.

Hello we are responding to the customers false reports. Penn Ohio installed a roof exactly  to the contract that was signed. The only thing in the roofing project was roofing. The job was 100% completed with no money down. Upon completion of the roof the owner had a handyman guy out there pushing up on the drip edge (which we have photos) with a broom stick. The owner also wanted fascia and gutter repairs done which we never were aware of nor to we even provide an estimate for. The owner then provided her own inspection from a inspection company and advised that the ice and water was installed wrong. We provided a couple of the install instruction directly from the manufacture and provided that the inspector was actually wrong! We have since filed civil action against the owner for not paying upon completion. The inspection showed no faulty workmanship at all and we can provide the whole report. Thank you and God bless

I had wind damage to my house on April 2023. I filed a claim with my insurance company and starting to get estimates for repair of my roof. One of the three companies that I contacted was PennOhio roofing. I spoke with Dustin at Penn Ohio roofing as my house needed tarping for protection. He AGREED to install a tarp that I had provided. He said insurance pays him 500 and I could pay him when I get my insurance check. I spoke to him on the phone and said I would pay him CASH now so he wouldn’t have to wait. We AGREED THAT I WOULD GIVE HIM $300 CASH (which he accepted and took that I had left for him taped to the window on my garage door) Dustin then contacted me after he was done and said he also installed another tarp on my house which I did not ask him to do (the tarp he installed was installed over a tarp that I had already installed over my garage) and he had no permission. Later in May when I informed him that he did not get the roofing job because he failed to provide me with an itemized work order; he only kept saying i know how to work with insurance companies. After learning the rejection of getting the roofing job he demanded $1250 for payment for tarping. He then sent me multiple texts demanding payment and remarking about his competitor saying that their Mexican crews do poor work and challenged their workmanship and that I would “come crawling back to him in a couple of years“. I did not respond to his text and then out of the blue a week later he sent me a text saying he will see me in civil court. I tried to make arrangements with him he is difficult, and aggressive. I refused to be extorted by him and asked him to please cease all communications with me. His response was “See you in court buddy. I just enrichment see you on 30 days.” The just of it is that he agreed to do a job for a price, accepted and took the money and added work without permission to pad the bill and engaged in a “sour grapes” attitude when he didn’t get the job.

On April 6, 2023 We discussed the cost of tarping my roof. I was quoted the price of $500. I agreed to pay this amount as soon as I received money from the Insurance company. This amount and payment of $500 was agreed to by both myself and Dustin G**** from Penn Ohio Roofing and Siding Group LLC. I asked for an estimate as I was getting several to have my roof replaced on April 6th, 11th and 19th. All Dusting would say is he works with the insurance companies. He wanted what the insurance company allowed plus my deductible. That was the only thing he would tell me. On April 28th he demanded $2250.00 since he wasn't going to get the job. He said that was the cost of the tarp. I told him we had only agreed to $500 for tarping the roof. He told me that he wanted $2250 and he could play games. I sent a cashiers check in the amount of $500 which was never picked up. I tried to settle this with a mediator but was only told that we are to far apart case closed. He told the mediator he filled out several reports for the Insurance company as they requested, which they never did. they only asked to two pictures no paper work was requested. enclosed you will find email and copy of allotted amount insurance company allowed for tarping of roof, text message from him about playing games and tracking for certified payment thru usps.

Hello we tarped the roof and took photos for the insurance company, we did all the work and then the homeowner keep the money from the insurance company. We filed civil suit against the customer because we never got paid. He hired a resolution team from mahoning valkry and he still didn’t agree. We have all text messages and photos to provide at civil suit. Again the homeowner has not paid and it is an u just enrichment case. We also filed a private criminal complaint with the first rift attorney because you are not allowed to profit from an insurance claim. Thank you

While remodeling our nursery we noticed a small water leak on the closet ceiling. We called PennOhio to have repairs made to the roof. On 7/13/20 Paul came and gave us a $2850 estimate to have the repairs made. He strongly advised us to have the roof replaced, eliminating the need for repairs, for $7,000($6500 with a military discount). We chose to have the roof replaced. On 8/5/20 the crew came to replace the roof. When they were finished my husband was walking our property and found a piece of cardboard thrown into the brush with a pile of poop on it. One of the workers had pooped on the cardboard in their work van and disposed of it on our property. We were also told after the roof was already installed that we would have to pay an extra $500 because the roof had to be double shingled. We were not given the chance to decline. I also called to ask the company for a receipt to have record of work done and I was told that they do not give receipts, and that the estimate was our receipt. We do not go into the closet with the original leak often, it wasn’t until Spring 2021 that we noticed the leak was back and spread, damaging the drywall that was just installed in the fall, and black mold was growing. We called Penn Ohio several times to have the leak looked at, it took several months for them to come. Paul came again and said the leak was simply because the workers had forgotten to caulk the dormers. By summer 2022 the leak was so bad the water was spreading down the walls to our first floor ceiling and walls. The leak in the nursery closet had become a gaping, black mold filled hole. 11/14/22 Dustin came to look at the leak and expressed that he hates when the salespeople are sent to look at roof repairs. We were given a $3,500-$4,000 quote to have the repairs made, after anticipating the work be done at no charge along with drywall repair because of their mistakes. We are disappointed and appalled by this experience and working with Penn-Ohio roofing.

Hello we respect the customer opinion but the facts are totally different. We installed a new lifetime warranty roof. A warranty is covered by workmanship error and not other parts of the house. The owner physically got on the roof and provided photos and pointed out in person to the homeowner the errors in the dormers. First there was metal flashing missing on the windows which was causing water to come in, second there was gaps in the window where water was coming in, third there were holes in the siding, fourth there was j channel cut short and not installed correctly allowing water to come in along the dormers, and lastly the siding had no water proof barrier behind it. We understand that a new roof was installed but that doesn’t neglect the fact that the homeowner has failed to maintain their home in the proper manner. Photos were taken and homeowner was present to view all errors. We did give the a price to fox the siding and dormer errors and now they believe that should have been included in the roofing price. The warranty covers roofing errors, not the windows, siding, doors, kitchen, electrical, plumbing, and any other non related roofing items. Thank you

Penn Ohio Roofing and I were able to come to a resolution. After I filed a complaint, the owner has been very knowledgeable and respectable about solving the problem with our leak, and we chose to use their business February 2024. The crew sent by Penn Ohio Roofing to fix our issue has been great to work with, efficient and very tidy.

Penn Ohio Roofing installed my roof 7/20/2017. I found piece of roof in my backyard and called them. They already were blaming the wind even before seeing the damage. The workers came out and said my shingles were curling and that the ridge vents were not nailed down properly. They didn’t realize that Penn Ohio originally installed the roof. Was called right after they left as I didn’t think I should be charged full amount of original estimate if it was faulty install. Less than 5 year old roof with curling shingles and faulty workmanship, but still saying it was the wind…then started talking about the price of gasoline…

Hello, this is **** your sales rep. Yes, the roof was installed in 2017. I personally came out and looked at your roof and and got on your roof. After inspecting the roof we advised you the way the shingles ripped and the way the cap blew off it was do to wind damage. I gave the homeowner a estimate to repair the shingles for 875. I also advised her she could contact insurance because she would have an insurance claim due to wind damage. If you view the back of the contract it states “ penn Ohio roofing and siding group llc is not responsible for any insurance related covered perils such as wind and hail.” These are reasons why a homeowners purchase insurance. After the job was completed, the homeowner asked if she could only pay half the money owed. I told her no, and then she filled a bbb complaint. I will upload the contract to bbb tomorrow. We understand each homeowners concern and we respect and honor each warranty, but we cannot warranty wind damage. I personally showed the homeowner that the shingles weee nailed correctly and the ridge vent was installed with 1 3/4 nails which is above code. Thank you for your time, and we will still honor any warranty in the future due to our workmanship. God bless!

I did not ask to pay half.  I asked for a reduced bill, since they did not do several points to the contract.  They thought a shingle was loose, however my shingles are curling.  Not sure what can be done with that.  Also it appears the patchwork they did does not match the original color of the shingles.  I didn’t notice that originally as they did this work in the evening and by the time they were done it was dark.

Contracted Penn Ohio Roofing to reflash our skylights, install ice water shield, and replace shingles in September 2021. Once the work was completed, the first time it rained post the fix, we are taking in a significant amount of water to the interior of our home. I called ******* (the sales rep) multiple times and he made promises to come back multiple times and as of December 2021 he has yet to return to correct the issue. We now have water damage to the interior ceiling of our home and the skylight is leaking and requires us to place multiple buckets in our room every time it even sprinkles outside. This problem was not the problem that we had prior to having them come to do the repair. Whatever they did wrong, has left us with a problem 10x bigger than the original issues.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

-The sales representative (*******) told me via multiple texts that they were coming to repair the leak that they created.  I have the texts to validate this and I sent them to Penn Ohio and the response they gave today was that we need to determine fault?  I find this unacceptable.

-I contracted them to install ice water shield, reflash, and replace shingles on both of my skylights as preventative maintenance and to address a MINOR leak (minor leak on one skylight).

-They DID NOT meet the contractual obligations because they didn't even reflash either of the skylights but I still paid them in full.

-The original leak we contacted them to fix was minor and on one skylight.  It had only just started leaking and only leaked on a very heavy rain downpour.  The original leak was one drip in a location that is totally different then were it is leaking now.  Additionally, after their substandard repairs, it now leaks in multiple locations, on both skylights, and we take on water EVERY TIME it rains. BUCKETS OF WATER every time it rains.

-Now due to this lack of follow up and the significant NEW leaks that they created we have drywall damage to the interior of our home.

-They haven't even come back one time since the work was completed to look at the roof and assess if errors on installation were made (which according to what we are seeing inside) errors had to have been made.

-They themselves have told me that have had multiple people quit and leave their company.  When the new guy called me to discuss the problem, he told me the original sales representative that I dealt with no longer works for them.  The original sales representative told me that one of the roofers that did my work no longer works for them and told me that the owner of the company was in jail for tax evasion.  I AM THE CUSTOMER.  I do not care about your company staffing problems or any other problems that the company is experiencing.  what I care about is that I paid them in full to do a job and I ended up with substandard work an issue that is 10x worse than the one I started with, and ZERO absolutely ZERO initiative to come fix the issue.  AT this point, I don't even know if I trust them enough to do any repairs on my home and want a full refund.  These are not the values and responses of a company that I want to do business with.

Hello, upon further review, I believe we resolved this matter. **** our sales rep was out to the homeowners house today. The homeowner was advised that we would replace the 2 skylights with 2 new velux ones. The homeowner would pay for the skylights and we would not charge for labor. Please be advised that it is very clear in the contract that there is no warranty! It is marked in bold print and check marked as well. We believe there shouldn’t be a mark against our record because we did exactly 100% to what was on the contract. The contract is also attached. We do under stand the homeowners point of view as the contract state needs flashing only, and not new skylights. The homeowner did have the option to go with the more expensive bud but decided not to. We do not give warranty’s on any repairs. We also advised that she has ridge vent on a vaulted ceilings and it could be causing leaks on hard wind drivin rains. We advised to remove ridge vent and install new hip and ridge caps. We do great all concerns serious and we apologize for any and all delays as covid has played a very drastic part in the country. We apologize for any delays and we believe this matter is resolved in full “Contract attached”

I would like to re-open complaint ******** to file a response to Penn Ohio’s feedback.  I had to have another roofing company come to our house to advise of us on the issues that they created.  I honestly would never want anyone to be in the position they left us in.  Attached are photos from the new roofer with detailed explanation of the errors, lack of workmanship, and new pictures.

Penn Ohio was contracted and paid in full to properly install flashing on our rook skylights.

      These are there errors:

      ·       The should have installed new back pans behind the skylights, they did not.

      ·       They did not use the proper Velux flashing kit for our skylights and did not install the flashing correctly and now have voided the warranty on the Velux skylights.

      ·       The re-shingled our house with the wrong shingles that had different dimensions than the original shingles and it made it to where the shingles were improperly installed and not secured at the point the new shingles tied in with old shingles.

      ·       I have attached pictures that the new BBB accredited roofing contractor provided us.

Please ensure my response and the pictures are uploaded to avoid future issues for hardworking homeowners whom contract them and receive subpar work.

I am filing a lawsuit with Penn Ohio to receive a full refund outside of this BBB complaint.

Hello after reading the report listed here we would strongly disagree with the homeowner view of this job. We have done everything to work with this customer. We have been out on numerous occasions. As you see in the contract she provided there are 2 options. Option 1 and option 2. The homeowner chose the cheaper option which was 1. That includes reflashing the skylights which we will provide photos. Option 2 provides 2 new skylights. We also offered the homeowner to pay us the difference between option 1 and option 2 and we would install option 2 free or charge to solve her issue. We have purchased the skylights and currently have them in our warehouse. The biggest thing here and it is very clear if you look at the contract provided by the homeowner, it is marked “NO WARRANTY!” In the top left hand side. Again we would love to resolve the issues but the homeowner is trying to find away to be unjustly enriched. We have all the text message from the homeowner and we actually gave her a price to install a new roof at a discounted price. She is very away that the skylights are the wrong style and in bad condition. The work was down and there is no warranty. We have a contract that follow Pennsylvania home improvement contractor act. We would love to resolve the matter and help the homeowner. God bless!
